    Oklahoma Fires!!!

Thank God you are all safe. I hope the rains help. Congratulations to RosaRoca and Davie on your new foals! That's wonderful that both mares had successful deliveries despite the fires. Sounds like they had little guardian angels watching over them while you were all busy helping others.

    What do you think

What will the DNA test show and how is it used by the registry? Thanks.

    Jack in the Box commercial

I'm with you, Jill. That Burger King guy IS really creepy! I just heard a story about a new commercial he's in that has something to do with "square butts". I saw a clip and it was weird.

    Oklahoma Fires!!!

Donna you are so right! Living in Southern California, fires are just a part of life here. A little over a year ago there was a fire in my valley (with many other fires burning in surrounding cities). My husband was in London so I was on my own with six horses and two dogs. I don't have a...

    Farrier cost

I'm in Southern California, too, and I pay $40 per mini. (ShaunaL, I live very close to you! I'm sending you a PM with information on my trimmer in case you're interested.)

    We Had A Mountain Slide

How frightening! We have these kinds of slides from time to time along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. (There are always smaller falling rocks.) They didn't mention any injuries--I sure hope no one was hurt.

Old tires used for feeders might not be a good ideal?

I have firsthand experience with the wires in the large tires. Rhett, my Appendix QH that I rescued almost five years ago, had this oozing sore on the bottom of his lower jaw. I was able to talk to the previous owner who said that he "had that for over six months" (long sordid story on the...

Really Sad 15 Miniature Horses Seized in

This is just horrific. I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said (that's fit to print ). Thank you HART for stepping up to the plate. I'm also glad to hear CMHR has committed $1,000 towards vet bills.

    founder question

Great information posted. I am a Pete Ramey fan, too. He has saved more horses and ponies than he'll ever know. Princess my pony is an extreme case of laminitis/founder but if you watch our corny little video, you'll see that recovery really is possible. We had scheduled to put her down but...

Got another new horse :) *Pics. included

Congratulations on your new boy! I just love the "seniors". I rescued three elderly horses almost five years ago and the one that was in the worst condition is still with us; he's 30 years young and is the sweetest horse. He was near death but fought so hard and made a full recovery. For...

    Horses' tails stolen!

My sister in Michigan emailed me a link to a story about a big horse and a mini whose tails were cut off and stolen in the middle of the night. How terrible!! Thankfully they knew enough to cut below the tail bone. I saw some special order, custom tail extensions at our local English saddlery...

I love edamame. Tastes great with sushi.

    Blood tests are in.... confused

How old is your little guy? I have a "profoundly" insulin resistant Welsh pony who is also Cushing's positive; she's 27 years old. She suffered a severe laminitis/founder (has actually had numerous episodes) and was 18 degrees rotated. I'm happy to say that her conditions are managed very...

Is Granite as great as they say?

We are almost finished completely remodeling our house and put granite in the kitchen. I love it! Our old counters were laminate, and at our other house we had tile with grout--I loathe grout. The granite is so easy to maintain and I don't worry about hot pans or scratches or anything. Well...

    Copper Classic Sale

I wish I would have known about this auction (not that I need a horse or anything. ) I would like to learn more so I will put the April auction on my calendar. I am curious to know if many of you have bought horses through auctions that you're not looking to use for breeding purposes, only...

Spent morning in emergency room-in horrible pain

I'm so sorry to hear of your trip to the ER. Unfortunately I have lots of experience with this. Some ovarian cysts can come and go with the hormone fluctuations of your cycles. The cysts can also be endometriomas (blood filled cysts); those kind do not go away on their own. I have had to...

    Craigslists, pony rescue

Oh my gosh. I read the ad and saw that the 30" has been ridden by a 5 year old little girl and has been bred. Did I read that correctly?? If she's really only 30" tall, wouldn't a 5 year old be too big? I worry about the little dwarf finding the right home.

Do you Believe in Law of Attraction and Positive thinking?

Very timely post. There was a great commentary by Ben Stein on the CBS Morning Show today. Ben Stein: Fear-Mongers Keep Us In Recession Among some of the points he made are that the percentage of houses not in foreclosure is 92%. For those that don't want to read "traditional" news, there's...
