    Creep Feeding

Perfect timing thanks for the post. I have my first miniature horse foal and was wondering the same exact thing experienced with big horse foals. The mare when I purchased her was WAY fat. She got nothing except good grass/alfalfa hay until the last month and 1/2 and then it was just a ration...

    Eating Dirt

She might have an upset stomach, horses will eat dirt, eat alot of salt, minerals, curl their lip, yawn if their stomach is upset. Clay pulls toxins from the gut. I have a bentonite clay brick in all my horses stalls. They will lick them for a day or two and then leave them alone for months...

    Trailer designes

A cheap projector from Joannes. I think mine was under 20.00. It will put your picture any size you want (you just move the projector closer or farther away from the trailer) on the side of the trailer you just trace and color it in.

    Pre-Foaling Mare Clips

Clipped my mare last night. It's my first foal clip too. Mare was wonderfully patient with me. I used a #10, it's the smallest number I had. Make sure to do under the belly too. Under the belly I went all the way up to the front legs, I've seen those little critters try to nurse between the...

    Barn Cam Woo hoo!

I have a four camera wired system right now that is run with RG6 coaxial buried 4' in the ground and I've got snow from 6p.m. to 9 a.m. All my neighbors are home then. That's why I am switching. This camera is suppose to go via internet so the picture should be just like watching youtube.

Your experience (if any) with slow hay feeders?

Made slow feeders for all my horses big and little out of tennis net openings 1.5". They are GREAT! I've had horses for over 30 years and to look out and see content horses milling around and wandering over to eat a little hay and then come visit and then go to the water is a THING OF BEAUTY...

Slow feed option anyone else use these?

For those that have had problems with hanging hay nets were the openings 1 1/4" or were they standard big horse hay nets. These nets we ordered are hockey nets with openings 1 1/4" I shouldn't have to worry about feet getting stuck in them.

Slow feed option anyone else use these?

Yep they hang from the ceiling. I HATE feeding off the ground where they are consistently reinfested themselves with PARASITES, ingesting dirt and sand (colic waiting to happen), not to mention feces and urine. Also,if you feed off the ground they consume their hay ration in minutes (terribly...

Slow feed option anyone else use these?

Hockey goal nets...... you sew them together and weave a drawstring at the top put a whole bale of hay inside and hang it from the rafters so the horses have a swinging feeder. The openings are 1 3/4" inch. Were thinking of putting them up with a rachet strap that can be tightened up every...

    List of do's & don'ts

I purchased two bred mares this fall both are due in Feb/March. When I built my house I designed it as a walkout with the garage under the living area. These mares will be in that garage well in advance of their due date. It isn't heated but maintains about 40-45 degrees when the temp outside...

at what age would you start the ground work for driving

Training begins the minute a foal hits the ground. It's all a progression. The better the progression the easier they learn. Always keep one ear on the horse, they will let you know, if your listening.
