    High Price of shows

Where we show here in the midwest, you can show in all eligable classes for $60.00 which is great if you have an older horse that is in halter and performance and that is with 3 or 4 judges. It is the stall fees of $55.00 per horse that I think is too high and even though you can put two horses...

How does this work? Can the foal be R registered

Even if the stallion could be updated to permanent in AMHR, if the mare is not able to be AMHR registered, it wouldn't really matter would it?? Don't both parents have to be AMHR registered or else you just have to hardship the foal and the mare.

    what is your experience

We had a mare last year that had a pinched nerve when the foal was too big and the vet really pulled on it. She even used a calf puller, which I didn't think you were supposed to do with a mare. The foal was dead and when the mare tried to stand, her legs splayed out so bably in the back she...

    IS IT JUST ME?

We had an orphan foal a few years ago and once he started drinking from the bowl he would not drink from a bottle. His bowl had to be the blue one, too. If we tried a different color, he refused it. What a character he was. He thought he was a "person" for the longest time, but at about a...

    Metal training cart

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows of the person who makes mini carts up in Minnesota. They guy is a welder by trade and started making metal carts for minis. He may have big horses, too. I am trying to locate him to see if he can repair my cart. I don't think that he is too far up in...

    First AMHA/AMHR foal

Hello. Although I have been in AMHR for 15 years, this is my first AMHA/AMHR foal. He arrived on March 25 about 11:00 p.m. His sire, who is 21 years old) is a son of Prince Tennessee Monashee and his dam is a grandaughter of Buckaroo. I am not sure if he is a bay or some other color. His...

Have you heard of this syndrome?

I thought this was cute and accurate! Living with O.C.E.A.N. Syndrome by Scooter Grubb Just recently, after years of research, I have finally been able to give a name to what my wife and I have been living with for years. It's an affliction, for sure, which when undiagnosed and...

    My new colt is here!

So sorry to hear about your colt. I know the Gemstone people are extremely upset as they had nothing to do with the condition of this colt as he did not belong to them. I had heard about the colt from a friend who visited the farm this colt was raised on and they could not believe the...

    Saturday AMHA General Membership Meeting

As a new member of the AMHA it was perplexing to me that at shows, mature stallions, mares and geldings were in the class 3 and over. To me it would have made more sense to be 5 and over since that is when their permanent papers took effect. Now the permanent status and the class name will at...

    NFC Rowdys Standing Ovation

Here are some quotes from articles on the American Paint Horse Association. It appears to me that they feel that the LWO gene is NOT a good thing to have in a breed. When Rowdy was alive, people did not know he was a LWO carrier, but now that we have the technology, it seems to me that we...

    NFC Rowdys Standing Ovation

Here is another problem with the LWO gene and it confuses people who don't think they have a frame overo. It is possible for sabinos and splashed overos, as well as apparent Tobianos, to carry lethal white. Most likely, it is because these horses have a frame overo in their pedigree somewhere...

    NFC Rowdys Standing Ovation

Exactly my point! Too many people don't know about the LWO gene that start breeding horses. Sure they could become educated about it, but they probably won't until they get their first Lethal White foal and wonder what happened. The paint horse people found they could produce Overos without...

    NFC Rowdys Standing Ovation

The trouble with the LWO gene is that if two of them combine (one from each parent) then the foal will die from having an incomplete intestinal tract. This can happen 25% of the time between two parents that both carry the LWO gene. There are NO homozygous LWO horses for this reason. I would...
