Circle S Bright Rivers Rising Pics

I was working with the "photoshop" options so I'm not sure what these will come out like. She doesn't have much white. The right side shot doesn't do her justice but I was taking these by myself and you know how that goes, they are either putting their nose in the lens or walking away from...

    SHOCK OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!

Hi Rod!! Yes, Speechless!!! That is how shocked I was!!! I talked to Mom and Dad tonight and I told them I didn't think they believed me when I told them about the filly. They said they could tell by the way I was stammering that it was no joke. They said they have never heard anyone talk...

    SHOCK OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone!! I don't think Mom and Dad believed me when I told them last night. Dad called me back later and asked me some more questions. I think he thought I was going to say it was all a joke. I think they are going to have to see her to believe it. It's 7:30 am now and I am going...

    SHOCK OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!

As some of you may know, when my parents retired (Circle S Miniture Overo Horses), they gave the last 2 mares they had to my daughter and myself. Small World Miss Bay is 27 years old and Wild n Wooly's Sweet Lips is 14 and presumed barren as she has not had a foal for 3 years even though she...

    Question about foal behavior...

She's not a dwarf! Perfectly natural and normal for babies to hang their tongues out. She won't do it forever and is no indication that anything is wrong. She is very pretty, enjoy her and her tongue. Kelly

    Manes, Tails and sunbleaching

I would suggest hot oil treatments as well. I also use Absorbine Show Sheen. It comes in a spray bottle, soak the hair and skin and rub in with your hands (will keep them soft too). This stuff is great!!! It also repels dirt and stains and makes manes and tails easy to comb through. The...

    Crested neck

In over 20 some years with horses of several breeds, I have never seen anyone that was able to reduce a crested neck. That's not to say there isn't a way to fix it but I haven't seen it. I'm afraid she may be stuck with it, just watch the weight so it doesn't get worse and break. Kelly

Anyone have pictures of Kahoka horses?

Hi- We have owned a couple Kahoka horses in the past. Kenny Chrisman was/is a very good friend of our family. He bred absolutely beautiful horses. If you never met him, the man is a character!!!! My dad asked him one time about castrating stallions. Kenny said he did it himself, put them...

    Cross Stitchers

a nice cross stitch birth record kit or pattern with tractors or a farm scene or farm animals (especially horses)? Nothing cutesy or cartoony, just a nice pattern or even a pattern that is not necessarily a birth record but one that would have room to add a name, date, etc... I am looking for...

    Treating Naval Cords on foals

We always used a spray bottle of 1% Iodine. Sprayed only one time but soaked good if we were at the birth and 2-3 times if they surprised us. In reading further since I have gotten some sheep, the 1% is not strong enough to kill all bacteria so breeders recommend using the 7% Iodine. I have...

NEW MARE WITH A 'DEFORMED'? LEG

Definately agree that it is hard to see anything in the pictures and that the first place to start is with your farrier and a good trimming. You may want to check her eyes if she is stepping that carefully she may be having trouble seeing. The shaking may also not be from pain but nerves. She...

    Sweating

When I worked for a leading paint/quarter horse farm, I sweated necks daily. What I did per owner and trainer instructions: Make homemade solution of equal parts epsom salts and Listerine and just a little more than an equal part of mineral oil (salt draws out water, Listerine stimulates heat...

    Rejected Foal!

Definately keep trying to get the mare to accept the baby but if it looks like she just won't take it, get yourself a nanny goat that has just kidded and let the foal nurse the goat. Takes A LOT of pressure off of you. I have seen nannies raise calves to weaning.

    What is this?

While it could be any of the above, it looks to me like he has been rubbing on something. You said he was really reaching when you were clipping and brushing. He itches, so he rubs and rubs the hair out in patches. Very typical and common. The long hair is hot, traps dirts and skin flakes...

    confession time

Okay, here's one more. I honestly have only ever told my sister about this and she about croaked. One day I decided I wanted an "all over" tan and thought it would be fun to sun bathe naked. So I went to the pasture which was about a 1/2 mile from the house and the house is a 1/2 mile off the...

For those who also raise cattle

Hi- Basically things are the same, position wise. First one front hoof then the other front hoof with the nose next on top of the legs. The big difference is that horses are more fragile and need to get the baby out faster than a cow. If you have to help the baby out, same for both, pull out...
