Very dark manure from Purina Mini horse feed?

We have been using it now for over a year and now that you mention it, their poop is a little bit darker than when fed oats, hay and beet pulp only. However, we have had great results with it. Good weight and in the right places, lots of energy, glossy, healthy coats and no health problems with...

    Bone-Deep Wounds

What a great video, thanks for posting this. Aside from the obvious healing of her wounds, her coat is so glossy and healthy looking and her spirit is intact! I love how she picks that tail up and happily trots along. Great job and bless you for the work you do.

    Here comes the judge

Thats funny Renee, Mike and I were having the same discussion yesterday. Who should we vote for...? Most of the names we came up with are judges we are familiar with who have judged shows up here in the "nort" country and have judged at nationals in the last couple of years. I agree it would be...

    Blanketing Help?

For cooler temps, I would use an insulated blanket--assuming you do not have a heated barn--and when its warmer, 65 and over, you can go with the lightweight sheet or nothing for a little while. We also shaved last weekend and are putting the insulated on at night and, when warm enough during...

Levi will be a gelding next week :)

We are very lucky, the vet we use charges $70.00. This may not be an option for you but if you have any veterinary schools near you, they sometimes have "specials" with a much lower cost. Or, there may be societies (Humane Society, ASPCA, etc) that sponsor free or inexpensive gelding as a way...

    Losses

We have lost one out of 25 over the last 8 years and it was the only mare we had in the barn. All others foaled in the "nursery" pasture. The same mare had a "dummy" baby the next time but we saved the baby and stopped breeding the mare.

What do you do with your aged stallions and mares.

Like most responses thus far, we let them get old and die on the farm (god willing we are still alive). The oldest one we have right now is 19 but we stopped breeding her a couple of years ago and have another mare (12) we won't be breeding anymore either. Our older stallion (7) we gelded last...

Horses attacked by pit bulls (update on page 9)

That is one of the worst things I have heard lately!! I am so sorry this has happened to you and your horses. I hope your stallion recovers well, it certainly sounds like he is on the mend. Though nothing will replace the value of your mare, I certainly hope you get some kind of compensation out...

Selling AMHA horses - paperwork question

We have found that the best thing (as a seller) is to do the transfer yourself and pay the fee... unfortunately...... fill out the transfer and transfer the horse immediately into the buyer's name and address.

    REMEMBERING A HORSE

We also lost a mare recently, and in the last 3 years, our beloved ancient donkey and two old white-tail does. We are fortunate to be able to bury our animals, and what we have done to date is to sprinkle their graves with wildflower and some old seeds we found in the barn, that knowing my...

    AMHA Annual Meeting and Convention

Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't find the link to the live feed for the General meeting, etc. Granted the meeting isn't until Friday, but I was wondering if the live feed was up yet or not.

AMHA Annual Meeting in Orlando Florida

This wasn't in our budget this year either but, one of these years. I would like to publicly thank all of the AMHA officers, board and committee members for their hard work and dedication. I think its often a thankless job and I admire people who spend their valuable time and energy struggling...
