    Stallions in Ohio

I try to have one foal a year. This year I had one. Next year, if everything goes well, I will have 2. I usually have one for sale, although I'm not trying real hard to sell this year's baby. He is so stinking cute I can't stand it.

    Open shows in Ohio?

I'd check your local facebook groups. Look for the regular horse groups, and if you have a local ish mini page you can post and ask. Without papers you can't do Amha or Amhr, but I imagine you have plenty in your area. Here there is a small mini club that puts on 3-4 shows a year, plus some of...

    Stallions in Ohio

It varies a lot on your area. We are near Lancaster, and the Amish breed small ponies for their kids. So we have tons of tiny, unregistered, broke ponies here. They sell from $1000-$2500 though, we never see them for $50. $600 might get you one that's lame, 30 years old, or dangerous. Very few...

    Hmmm...bad conformation or growing funny

How do you decide which is which? Most of my babies have been born fairly straight and stayed that way. Sometimes they get a little wonky looking and then straighten out. Or they have some looseness that they need to grow out of. If you have a foal that starts very correct then starts to turn...

What's your best weight loss advice?

Ah, got it. I thought you meant they thyroid stuff would only work for cushings. I only have known one horse who was on it and he was a cushings horse.

What's your best weight loss advice?

Hmmm, it doesn't make sense for short term, I wouldn't think. No signs of cushings at all. She is young, has a pretty short coat, no feet issues or health issues at all other than being too round. I'll look into chasteberry.

    A new ‘hobby!’ (Obsession)

It sounds like you are having fun, and they are adorable!

    Crockpot Recipes

How about split pea soup? I use a 32 oz box of chicken broth, half a bag of dried split peas, couple of diced carrots, and I prefer a ham hock but any sort of ham will do. If you use leftover ham you can just chop it up, but the hock you need to pull off the bone once it's done. It's a little...

What's your best weight loss advice?

So I thought I'd update on my fat little snowball's weight loss journey. I moved her to a different dry lot and for some reason in this one she walks the fence line by the stallion after she is done with her hay. It seems to be helping a lot, and while I don't think she has lost much she isn't...

    Billy

Boys tend to get bored more easily and look for trouble, but some it's more than others. My stallion would probably rip things apart looking for something to eat, but he wouldn't dream of messing things up for the joy of it. His colt is the same way. Well as far as that can be in a baby. He...

    Crockpot Recipes

My favorite crock pot dish is pork and sauerkraut. Put in some pork. I like country style ribs but it works fine with any pork. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and crumbled up dried mushrooms. Cover with sauerkraut. Pour one beer on top. Or a hard cider if you are gluten free. Chops or boneless ribs...

New to the mini show world

Welcome! I think there are more than a few people on here who started with bigger horses and moved into showing minis. I started APHA, now I show the little guys. There is quite a bit of difference in the showing, so getting a trainer to help should put you ahead of the curve a bit.

What color do you think he is?

I can't imagine his daddy has anything that causes fading. He is black, and black all year even though he lives outside.

    Pack rats

I don't know why, but you can fence them out. You are going to need the wire mesh with the tiny square holes though. And probably to bury them so they don't just dig under.

    Preparing wild land for minis

That will be a huge help! And he should be able to give you lots of info on how to turn the rest of yours into pastures or paddocks. You can get some time to enjoy before you get to start working. 🤣

What color do you think he is?

It's possible that there is a lot of fading, but he is very light grayish tan around his nose, which I don't think blacks are supposed to have. And he shed out that way so it shouldn't have gotten that faded. His baby shed was very light, he's getting darker now as he gets his winter woolies...

    Preparing wild land for minis

Well, I'm on the other side of the country, but I've taken land and made it horse friendly a few times. Over here one of the big concerns is old dumping areas. Each farm dumped or burned their garbage and now that it is grown over you don't know until glass and rusty metal start showing up in...

What color do you think he is?

She is gorgeous! The color is very similar, unfortunately, smoky black or buckskin was my first guess, and he is negative for cream. I'm not too familiar with nd1, could it cause all the black to fade off bays? I should have done the full color panel instead of testing one by one, I may have to...

What color do you think he is?

I couldn't find that article specifically, but they probably have the most detailed color information out there. I emailed them and asked for the link. I've been using their website since I started having funky colored foals. To the best of my knowledge though, he would still need black points...
