A family affair?

Are you the only bookworm in your family, or are there others?

My husband will occasionally pick up a book to read, but he prefers to spend his time watching tv or playing video games. So I guess I would be the only person in my house who could be labeled a book worm. Lol

My mom (93 yo) is a book worm with the large print books. My oldest daughter loves to read but is way too busy with her family and work to spend as much time as she would like to open a book. She has 3 kids, the 2 older boys enjoy reading. Hoping her daughter enjoys reading as she grows older. Then there is me.

Well, I'm not quite a bookworm, but as far as family goes, my Mom and I are the only two readers around here; hubby and his folks hardly read at all, my brother in law does some reading, but mostly comic book type stuff (he's a bachelor with all the weird idiosyncrasies). [Guess I take that back, my FIL does some reading, especially now with his hearing loss, which makes TV watching more difficult.]

Well, my hubby will read the Alex Cross stuff written by James Patterson, and he has read some of the Murder Club, also some of the same detective novels that I read, but he won't touch my Koontz, or Steven King. I did finally get him to read one of my James Rollins novels, but to be honest he works such long hours it is hard for him to sit down and read. Now it is planting season, plus he has a full time job. My duaghter that passed away was a reader of Steven King, and when ever she came to visit would take a book or two. I have five children and she was the only one that enjoyed reading. I don't want to bring anyone down, but it is so hard to type was instead of is. My daughter that lives with us, says I have all scary books and won't let her son touch them, but guess what, I caught him with The KIng Of The Wind by Margeret Henry looking at the drawings, he is four. so Maybe I have another bookworm in the making.

Awe, my heart goes out to you. No parent should ever have to deal with the loss of their child.

Make sure that you buy your grandson plenty of books to feed that interest of his.

I was the only bookworm in my small family. But I have managed to turn my husband into a reader! I started by bringing home books from the library of subjects he was interested in (ie. the Titanic, etc.) from the CHILDREN'S SECTION!!! Lots of cool photos and quick reading. Eventually he began to come with to the library and hunt his own books in the adult section. The books began to get thicker and now he has favorite authors in fiction and still enjoys history and such. He likes to sit back with a book and while the night away!

I'm very grateful to my mom. There was a little library in our neighborhood and she'd talk my sister and I with her. She was a :reader" so was going for herself, but we got to go get books from the children's section. What an awesome WORLD a library is! My sister and I have been lifelong readers since then.

Yes at my house we all read! Son is not picky and will read pretty much any young book. Right now he's reading The Tail of Despereaux (Sp?) Then he's moving on to Charley and The Chocolate Factory. Hubby will read any book or manual on tractors or involving his type of truck! He'll read it and reread it a few times. Me, I like Stephen King the best! I'll read a new book non stop until it's done! I'll try new stuff also, like I read the "grey" series (not impressed). The hunger games series( really liked the first one, second one was OK, readable, and the third one drug out and was hard to keep my attention!).

I'm looking for something to read right now, I'm bookless! LOL!!!!

My mom likes to read but my dad would not touch a good book. I don't know if my sisters read...

Everyone in my family loves to read. I grew up seeing my parents enjoy reading and being read to by boh of them. My mom would pay my sister and I for each book we read and buy us our next one. We would have read anyway! She also paid us for each poem we memorized. THAT I may not have done I'd have done without payment then, but now one of my favorite books is the same as one of my mom's... Best Loved Poems of the American People. My sister grew up to be a leading reading specialist for elemtary kids, and my favorite pastime is reading. I think it was really more because we saw our parents loved it themselves and read to us far more than because we got paid

You guys are lucky! My mom hated to read (still does). I remember my grandmother would read to me sometimes, and I always tried to read to my brother when he was small but he doesn't care for reading now. I think my love of horses helped me because I would read horse books that had lots of pictures. Then as I got older, I liked scary fiction, and it's just blossomed into loving everything from there.

I LOVE to read.I was encouraged by my Mom who was a teacher.When she would go away she always brought me back a book-I even have a signed copy of Margerite Henry's Born to Trot.Of course my favorite books were horse books.My granddaughter who is now almost 21 is an avid reader and has asked for my books when I die.(Of course)She is an English major in college..Older son rarely reads.Younger son is a bookworm and history buff.Grandson rarely reads but he was raised by a Mexican nanny who spoke very little English and couldn't read or write much even in Spanish.She didn't read to him, but he is bi-lingual.I think reading to children really encourages them to read when they are older.I have lots of books on my Kindle and always have a real book by my chair.

I love to sit down and read. I don't have as much time for it, as I would like though. I have honestly taken a book and gone to the ranch where my mini is and just sit with her, while I read. That may be all we do, but it is so relaxing. I read to both my children, from the time they could sit on my lap and look at a book. So my daughter is an avid reader now and my son, he will pick up books on and off to read. My husband, well...if I had to depend on him, for my life, to read a book, I guess I wouldn't be here. LOL Will not read at all. Both my parent's love to read too.

I love to read and do so everyday. When I was growing up I spent all of my time, especially in the summer, in the library. I lose myself when I read, so much more than watching tv or movies. My taste runs mainly to fiction. I love murder, horror, occult,and of course silly love stories My Dad was an avid reader, mom does not like to read books, but reads the newspaper front to back every single day. Hubs reads the newspaper and loves to read non-fiction and biographies. My daughter was never much of a reader, even though I read to her everyday. Came to find out she has a mild learning disability. Once we sorted that out, she took to reading like a fish to water. She is addicted to an internet site, where you can post your own handwritten stories and poetry. I swore I would never give up a regular book for an ereader, but as age creeps up, my eyes have gotten worse, and I did move to an ereader. So much easier, as I can adjust the text size.
