I was thinking about this a lot lately, and I just can't get it off my mind.

My friend Sarah is the BEST friend I have ever had in my life. We show horses together, we are always hanging out together, and best of all, I know she is always there for me.

Anyways, I received a gift from her for my 16th birthday last June.

She had already given me a cd I really wanted, and that was just perfect. Then when she came to my party, she gave me $10. Though not much, let me just tell you that her family REALLY can't spare money like that. It takes her about 2 months to earn $5 or so for chores and babysitting and such.

It made me cry. To know that this $10 was something she had worked so hard for. I don't really know how to describe how it made me feel. I felt selfish, yet honored. I did however take the money, and used it with my own to treat my best friend out to lunch.

Anyone else ever get something so simple, but something that means so much to them?

That was so nice of your friend!! I'm glad to hear you got to include her when you spent it.

One year I was laid off just before Christmas. I didn't know how I was going to buy presents let alone a meal. A friend of mine babysat for me for the day. When I went to pick up the kids she had a grocery bag full of food and a card from the kids. I cried, something I will never forget! I have still yet to do something so nice for her--don't know what or how yet tho.

True Friends are such a special gift!!

l found as l've grown older that the simplest things mean the most as they come more from the heart then the head or how much money you have. We served at a inner city xmas dinner on the weekend and a very unkept looking middle aged guy came to my daughter and handed her a looney because she smiled and treated him decent without looking down on him when she dished out the mashed potatoes and gave him an extra scope. She said no to the looney and for him to put it into the Sally Ann kettle and he did. You have a good friend who thought with her heart and you accepted with yours which for me would mean more then a hundred dollar gift.

My grandmother was the greatest person in the world. And although she has been gone for many many years, at this time of year I miss her most.

A few months before Christmas she would work odd jobs. Enough that she would get all the grand kids a new silver half dollar. I know it doesn't seem like much, but she was so very very proud to be able to give that to us. And each Christmas I could not WAIT to get to her house to get my half dollar. I knew how hard she had to work to be able to get enough for all of us.

I still have all 17 of mine. She gave them to us each and every Christmas.

Face value, about $170 dollars now, my value, there isn't a dollar amount high enough. She has been gone for 30 years now, and Christmas morning, my tin of half dollars is always under the tree.
