When the dogs killed Little America's Sterling Fantastic we were very upset that they seemed to pick the best to take out. We have had so few foals by him and have lost a couple this year, too, so I was very concerned about one of my tiny "private collection" mares. She was in foal to Sterling, UNDER 26" tall and a maiden mare. When I brought her into the foaling barn I told Carol and our night watchman that if she went into labor when I was gone, if there was a hint of a problem to get her to the vet ASAP because I wanted that foal!
Imagine my delight when a little before noon today when I was bringing some people out of the house to look at horses, I saw her starting to push, laying in the yard where we keep the "imminent" mares during the day. The foaling was quite quick and almost perfect and here is the result:
