Our last foal was born Monday afternoon, a busy week so I'm late announcing.
Well, Crystal tried to "trick" me this year by going earlier than she ever has foaled before (327 days), but I outsmarted her with the pool tests strips and saw her milk change Monday morning to high in calcium and low in ph. At 1:30pm I saw her lay down in the pasture so went out to bring her to the stall in the barn. Five minutes later she was down and pushing, I'm getting really good at this timing thing!!
: Foal was out by 1:45pm, text book birth! A solid black filly, with obvious sclera and striped hooves, no mottling yet, but I bet that will come. Not the spotted blanket I was hoping for, but I will take healthy over that any day! I measured her at 21" tall, with a 7" cannon bone, so small for Crystal, but not as tiny as Spring's filly. Sired by my snowcap stallion, Bingo, he's got the filly thing going! This is a half sister to Crayonbox Tickle Me Pink, and Crayonbox Chips Sunday Brunch.
I'm now letting the filly fairy go.... until next year! :bgrin
I've named her "Crayonbox Crystal Clear" but still working on a barn name, maybe CC or maybe Chrissy.
I'm pretty sure this one is a keeper.
