Am I Wrong?

Around 11:00am this morning the people that live behind me were fighting. It started with the loud sound of a slap. The man started screaming and she started crying. Let me add that there was a 5 year old in the house. They have been fighting for about a week now and he has been taking the furniture somewhere. Just as much as he could fit in the back of his SUV. Every time he came back to get more furniture he would start screaming at his girlfriend/wife. Well, today as I said it started with a slap. Lots and lots of yelling. Even though he was moving his furniture out he kept telling her to get the "F" out. He shoved her out the door and almost down the stairs. Then he jerked her back in the house and he picked up a 2x4 that was on the porch. He hit her with it. Thats when I called 911. I don't know if the man was taken to jail but, it sure is quiet up there right now. Was I wrong to call 911?

Absolutely not! He can just as easily kill her with a 2 x 4 as a gun. Physical abuse is not to be tolerated by anybody, glad you called and hope she is ok. Please keep up posted if you hear find out anything. Maybe she needs a friend to help her, just be careful.

OMG! You wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you didn't call, you absolutely did the right thing. I feel bad for you to have to go through this. Keep yourself save and you did the right thing to try to help this poor woman. Bless you.

I don't care what he's mad about, there's no excuse to be hitting her & beating her with wood! I'd like to see how he'd like it! Grrrrr

I would have called just after the slap. As a child i watched my mother go through 3 different abusive relationships and it is horrible to think anyone would do that to their wife let alone let the child see it.

You did the right thing and there is no question.

A freakin' 2 x 4 !!!! OMG !!!! Not only did you do the ONLY right thing to do I hope you're going to testify against him as you witnessed his abuse.

Hope he goes to prison...hope she gets the furniture back and lives happily ever after

You know, there was a time, like when I was growing up in the fifties and sixties, when you stayed out of other peoples' business. Thankfully, those days are long gone, and the police these days are also much more responsive to issues of domestic violence. The wife/girlfriend could end up being very ticked off that you "meddled" in their business, but what other choice did you have? What if he had killed her? And with a child involved...! That is simply reprehensible! The man sounds sort of like a loose cannon, and I hope the cops didn't let them know it was YOU who called!

I don't think the police told them it was me. Heck the horses were even watching the whole thing. They did bring out an ambulance but she didn't go to the hospital. The police separated them and patted him down outside around the corner of the house. Another officer took her inside. He is still there so I guess she wasn't beat enough. The police were there for almost an hour. They were real quiet after that. I guess I will just have to call again when they start to fight again.

about 15 years ago my brother lived in a trailer park and one of his neighbors came home from work on a Friday and he had lost his whole pay check at a casino. She hit him over the head with a cast iron skillet. They came and took him to the hospital and did not arrest her. Go figure. She could have killed him with one blow.

I agree with everyone.... It's always good to call. And in a domestic situation, it's up to the victim whether or not to press charges. There's nothing you can do about that, but at least you raised an alert.
