Anybody know the turn around time on AMHA registration papers? Boo's papers were still in the office when I bought him, just wondering how much time I need to give them before calling them on them.

Hi Ashley,

I have a couple weanling papers that have been in there at least 7 weeks. When I called last week they just said they are swamped.

I normally dont register AMHA but last year.. took me over 5 months to get a weanlings papers back

cant say if that is normal or not since i dont normally use them

It really depends on the year but they ALWAYS take longer then AMHR. ALWAYS ALWAYS!! last year I sold a black pinto colt...sent in his registration papers in July (a month after he was born) and when he was shipped to his new home late September, i had his AMHR papers but no AMHA. We called many many times as I felt bad about shipping him to his new place and not being able to give the lady the papers (especially since she was being so cooperative about it!). My grandma called i think it was in early sept. and the lady said that they had the papers done and just needed to send them. No papers come late September so my g-ma calls early october and then a NEW lady says...oh well we just finished your papers and we'll send them in a couple of days! Then she called a week later when no papers came and the lady goes "well we sent them about 3 days ago". 8 days later we got the papers. Ya wanna know something interesting? It only takes 3 days for mail to get here from there!!

I usually get my papers back from AMHA so much faster than AMHR. It is like three times as fast. However, this year, I got my AMHR papers back in four to six weeks, and the AMHA papers in 8 weeks.

I did call and they were very swamped and having problems with their computer system (which they are addressing, I understand).

I didn't have any reason for them to rush anything, so I didn't request that service.

Usually they are also great to expedite if I call and have a show or something and they are being slow.

You can call them and it should help move things through faster, but otherwise, I'd give them two to three months.

I cant call and check on them as they are in the original owners name not mine. I have the transfers and what not here with me, but his original papers are still in the office.

I am still waiting on papers I sent in for a weanling on May 8th.

Edited to add: I have emailed and called and I was told they were finished early last week. Still not here though.

I called a few weeks ago to check on papers and they said they are about 8-10 weeks behind. Sent in papers end of May and got them back mid August.

AMHA paperwork turnaround is a grueling 2 to 3 months.

I've had some mares tentatively sold, but due to the paperwork delays, ended up losing the sale. When I have to drop my prices this low in order to get buyers interested, paying the $40 expedite fee compounds my losses in an already soft market. The least they can do is speed up the process to help their customers get on with business.

In August we decided to show a weanling colt and Purolatored the paperwork to AMHA just over a week before the show. We didn't expedite them or anything and they were able to fax us his registration number the Thursday before we left.

We have never waited 3 months for our papers, I would say a month is average, and since we're usually sending a whole bunch, plus it would take the mail a while to get it there and back, that certainly seems reasonable.

They are behind right now, we sent the remainder of our foals (7) paperwork plus a few temporary to permanent in at the end of August and when I called last week hoping to get a number for the colt in my avatar before he was in a sale last weekend they hadn't gotten to our papers at all yet. But considering that they've been doing a lot to help hurricane victims right now, and organizing a World Show, I thought that was understandable. Besides, the colt didn't sell anyway!

Call for a quicker turn around.

This is something I have a HUGE problem with. See if your paperwork has been in the office for a week and you call in they will pull your paperwork and put it on the top of the pile.

Now how is that fair. Breeder A needs papers back in a hurry pays the $40 (or whatever it is) to get them back in time. Breeder B sends papers in and is prepared to wait. Breeder C sends papers in, does not pay the rush fee but decides for what ever reason he wants the papers back earlier so calls and bumps a whole lot of Breeder B's back.

Seems silly for AMHA to make people pay for a "rush" fee when the back door is wide open. Perhaps if the phone wasn't ringing for breeders to have their paperwork bumped up they would get everyones done a little quicker.

Like I said before...we called and still it took them a month or so to send us our papers. AND THEY LIED! If they had just said that they were swamped and it would take them a while then we would have been fine with that but because they lied it really made things all that much worse.

We ALWAYS get our AMHR papers back before AMHA. ALWAYS. Even in the 10 plus years before.......We usually only send in about 2-3 registration applications a year to AMHA and about 9-10 to AMHR but still get AMHRs back sooner.

just took me 3 months to get stallion perm papers back from amha ughhh amhr is usually about 10-14 days

Well, I know you are refering to getting registration papers back...

but just 2 days ago i finally received a stallion report confirmation form back from them.

I had dated and sent it in on march 21st. They stamped it as receiving it on March 29th..

The post date on the envelope is Sept 23rd.(so it wasn't the mail service

It's not a big deal at all and i just kinda chuckled, because i had forgotten all about it.

In my experience though, amha has always been alot slower with all paperwork than amhr.

Because of that, I will usually call after 1 month or so, just to make sure they at least have it in the office (so i know it wasn't lost in the mail)

Although, I do wish they could send out DNA kits faster than they do

I was just going to ask about the time it takes for you to get the DNA kits?

I mailed the registration papers in and requested the DNA for parent qualified in on 3 Sept. I just thought I would have the kit by now.

The last two times I spoke to people in the registration office (end of Aug/early Sept), they were just clearing May/early June paperwork, but were suppose to be adding extra office help.

The DNA test kits, I would call on, as we've had this happen twice, the request not having been forwarded to Freda to send them out - caught between accounting and the file. She can fax them or mail fairly quickly. That isn't the results, just the kits. Freda has been very fast at getting the kits out. I've been told though that UCD is backed up processing those as well.

We keep copies of everything and a log of what was sent to each registery and dates, etc., so we always know what is outstanding.
