The one show I attended is up in the show results and I noticed in the amateur hunter I placed 1st and 2nd out of at least 6 and didn't receive any HOF points. I looked up other amateur classes and saw that they weren't given any HOF points either. I know that in halter you were never received any HOF points in amateur halter classes but you were able to with the other amateur classes but now even in driving it looks like they don't count towards HOF. I hope this is just a mistake, I never heard of this change.

I don't think Amateur or Youth classes count towards a horse's HOF. I'm not sure they ever did? I remember that in driving, only Open, Ladies, and Gentleman's classes counted towards the HOF but only the highest amount of points in just one class, at a single show, not all of them combined if you showed in more than one.

I'll have to go look at the Rulebook.

Okay I looked at the old (2008) version and although it doesn't specifically say that Amateur performance classes are not eligible, it doesn't say that they are, either. It just says

D. Hall of Fame points are not given for Model, Amateur,

Color or any other classes that are not preliminary for

championships.

E. In the performance division, only one preliminary

class, in addition to a stake, will be counted (the

placing resulting in the highest number of points.) For

example: if a pony or horse places first in Ladies

Pleasure Driving with six entries, it would earn two

points. The same animal placing second in Open

Pleasure driving class of 16 entries would earn five

points. Thus, the points earned in the Open class

would be counted.

That's on page 328. Hope that helps any. I did show in Amateur halter and driving and I don't remember ever getting HOF points in either of them, but I did when I showed Ladies and Open.

They have always done so in the past. Like halter obstacle I was able to get points in both ammy and open, even received them in youth when I was a youth. Same goes for driving. This is the first year I noticed no points are counting in amateur classes. I'll have to go check the youth.

You may be confusing the Hall of Fame points with the all star points in which according to my rule book if I read it right do count for youth and amateur.

Here is the email I got concerning the points...

There is a problem with HOF calculation for Amateur and Youth for shows we have entered since 6/21/2011. The programmer is correcting it and as soon as she is finished, we will go through and resave each class so that the correct totals show.

She had also mentioned they don't combine classes but I know for a fact that they have done so in the past when I was going for my horse's HOF showing in open, ammy, and had a youth show him and they accepted all those points from his wins. So I'm not sure who's responsible for keeping track of such things. I haven't even thought about this rule as even showing back as a youth its always been that way.

Ok got my reply and answer about getting points in combined classes (open, ammy, youth, stakes, etc...).

Before 2008 or 2009 you did get all the points, now they have a new program and its like what it says in the rulebook. You still get points in ammy and youth classes but they just take the highest number of points you get in those classes. When I showed my horse it was back in 2008 where he got his HOF. So thats the story there.
