Almost exactly 24 hours after her mom had her pups, Taz started delivering hers. The first one, sadly, was stillborn but she has five beautiful little babies, two of which are female. One of them is marked kind of like the dog in Little Rascals, with two black ears, a patch over the left eye and a bit on the right cheek, and a dot square in the middle of the top of her head. The little "runt' is also female and nearly half the size of her siblings, but she's a feisty one and fights hard to get to the dairy bar. Taz is an excellent mom so far, but still looks at them when they whimper with the look that says, Who the heck are you and where did you come from? LOL

Our daughter has named Hope's girl, Holly, and Taz's will be Tinsel. (Those names are subject to change, though... any minute!)

I'll get some photos of all of them tomorrow to post.

I KNEW that would happen!!! Sorry about the first one- they probably were not quite ready so he spent to long in the passage- this can happen when Mama as opposed to Nature, starts the birthing process. You did all the violent rubbing, CPR and mouth to head bit, didn't you?? I also like to have a bowl of very cold water handy- I've jump started foals by dunking them in the trough- the sudden change in temperature can cause them to gasp and then you are away. Sometimes, though, nothing works, they are just gone, and it is so sad.

On the up side you have all the others and the Bitch will never know she lost him, so grieving is our field, not theirs.

Remember to mark the puppies- you are going to find the ******* mixing them all up pretty soon!!!

I hope you have a very big box!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
