Lori is convinced I have pink eye. Me, im not to sure and would rather avoid a doc visit if at all possible.

My eyes are kind of red but thought it might be from the constant cough I have had. My eyes always feel "tired" , tender at the corners and sometimes ich. This morning I had to pry my eyes open as they were "glued" shut. Can they do that with a cold?

I have already been banished away from her because of my cold, now she is running away from me if I try to get to close!

Sounds just like it. Sorry.......but, been there, done that. Get to the doctor asap, it is very contagious.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the membrane that lines the eyelid and wraps around to cover most of the white of the eye. The eyes may appear swollen and bloodshot: they are often itchy and irritated. Because the infected membrane is often filled with pus, the eyelids are apt to stick together after being closed for an extended period. Factors that can contribute to conjunctivitis include bacterial infection, injury to the eye, allergies, exposure to substances that are irritating to the eye such as fumes, smoke, contact lens solutions, chlorine from swimming pools, chemicals, makeup or any other foreign substance that enters the eye. Conjunctivitis is highly contagious if it is caused by a viral infection.

This is from my Nutritional Healing book. Recommendations:

Vitamin A 100,000 UI daily for 1 month then reduce to 25,000 daily.

Vitamin C 2000-6000 mg daily in divided doses

Zinc 50 mg daily, do not exceed 100 mg daily.

Yup... Sounds like you have pink eye. It's very contagious and you should probably use disinfecting wipes on everything you touch. Wash your sheets and everything. You could very well reinfect yourself if you're not careful.

Ashley,

I googled pink eye and found this link from the Mayo Clinic.

Pink Eye

Worth a doctor trip if you have it it will spread so quickly to everyone else in the house and can keep going around and around

Yup...I had it years ago and got it from a goat! As people have already said it is highly contagious!

There is a good chance it is pink eye but then again when I was sick last year my eyes did the same thing and I just got those eye drops that you can get at walmart that are for red irritated eyes and it cleared up right away. So it could be from your cold or from pinkeye safest to go to the doc but if you are more like me and want to do the eyedrop route first I at least understand

I dont like doctors!

Could be pinkeye--a lady I work with had it earlier in the winter. Doctor said she probably didn't catch it anywhere, it's just something that came with her cold. It's actually less contagious amongst adults than children, because adults tend to be better about not rubbing their eyes and then touching anything/everything. Children are less careful and so it is more contagious amongst them.

Yes I had it. Started in one and spread to the other.

You have it. Get the drops. Its very contagious. Hee hee. My eyes looked like I was possessed.

I get pink eye every few years or so. It sucks to have it.

Go to doctor and get eye drops before the rest of your household catches it and then everyone will need eye drops.

I did talk to the nurse today when we were in for baby check up.

I am trying the walmart pink eye drops first, if they work it will save me alot of money(I dont have insurance).

SHe said it probably came with the cold and as long as I have the cold it could/probably would come back.

Doc wasnt sure if it was pink eye or not but is haveing me treat it anyway. Also gave me something for the cough so hopefully it gets better. I am only a little over a week with this thing and they are lasting 3-4 weeks.

UGh!

Tis the season for allergies and pink eye can come on as a result. My 6yr old daughter had what I thought was pink eye. Really no other symtoms other than normal (for her) nasal congestion as she is an allergy sufferer and on allergy meds. Turns out she had a raging infection and was very sick. She just finished her antibiotics yesterday. We did have to use drops for the first 5 days to clear her eyes up.

It really is best to get it treated as it is contagios and spreads easily. Strip your bed and launder anything you have touched after touching your eyes as you can reinfect yourself and others. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
