I actually know Rip's Northern Star. Don Rudeen used to own him, sold him to the Salsbury's and then when Mr. Salsbury became ill and his wife couldn't take care of the ponies Don talked one of his Standardbred clients into rescuing when he was ran through a sale in tough shape at Simon's. Vern, the Standardbred guy, sold him to a family a few years ago - no idea how he ended up in a rescue out east!
Don showed Northern Star (that cropped picture on the rescue site was taken at a show and Don is the person in the cart) and he's very well trained to drive. When Vern owned him he used to drive him all around the MN Horse Expo advertising Triple C Carts and Harness (Trace - you probably remember seeing him years ago - he's a little bay pinto).
Northern Star was used as a stud - Don had a couple of foals from him and Salsbury's used him as a stud also. Don't think he was gelded until Vern bought him.
All the show claims for Northern Star and his ancestors on the rescue site are correct.
I own a Silver Mane's Frisco Cody son who is 27 this year. I also own a paternal half sister to Rip's Northern Star, RBD Rip's Centennial Souvenir who is 20 this year. If you go to my website and to the mare pages and find RBD Rip's Centennial Souvenir you can click on her pedigree page and then click on Rip's Black Larigo and a picture of him will come up.
