Well I Can't wait too see photos of new additions!

Hey I have news for those in Area VI - or anyone that wants to participate - The Annual Lead N Lope Stallion Futurity Auction is February 17 at 1:00 PM at Tobies in Hinckley, MN. Phone calls are accepted for bids. Deadling to nominate a stallion is January 15th, 2008.

Let me explain this - its a futurity. In the spring of the preceding year, people offer a stallion service to the auction. Then a catalog goes out and people look at it. On February 17th they come and bid on the stallions to breed their mares to that spring for the next year's foal crop. Then they show those babies.

Stallion owners have to put their terms of service in the catalog so there are no surprises. But the money the stallion service was sold for goes into the pot for the next years futurity.

Then in the year of the foal (say I buy a stallion service in 2008 - then the foal is born in 2009), I can show that foal in the futurity classes with just a small office fee ($25.00). I compete for cash money. In 2007 there were payouts of $21,000.00.

I put my Shetland stallion Big N Rich FMF and a miniature Stallion in the auction. I ended up buying my shetland stallion service back. But the miniature stallion was sold. This year I plan to put my Shetland stallion in, but haven't made my mind up on my miniature.

Anyways - in the fall of 2007 I showed a Shetland filly in the open classes and placed 3rd against all the other stock horses in the class. And I took 1st in the color class.

In the fall of 2008 I can show two foals because I bought back my stallions service (shetland). My miniature qualified me to show a foal from him off my farm, as well as the person who bought the service. So both stallions could have two babies in the ring.

This futurity was started by some folks who have been in the equine industry in the state of Minnesota for over 25 years and is not breed specific. And it has been gaining momentum. They are open to the idea of having driving classes as well as the halter classes for small equine but the first foal crop to drive is still 2 years away.

Anyways - if you want to offer a stallion for service - contact Merle or Barb Himle or Gary Schmidt - call 320-679-4993 or 320-679-9134. Or go to www.wagonwheelfarm.net and click on the Lead N Lope link.

We already breed each year, why not win a little with our breedings? Purse prizes are usually over $1,000.00 for first.

Thanks for listening!

Is anyone out there? LOL!

YES!! We just bought an 11 hand bay unregistered Shetland for our grandaughter to use as her gymkhana horse. She has the bug BAD!! I may use him as a driving pony, too, since i am thinking my 30" mini might be too small to do CDE. He arrives Saturday and we are all excited.

Congratulations!

Where did he come from? Is he broke already? You can use your mini in CDE, they have a new division called VSE (Very small equine)!

We bought him from Royal Legends Stables near Sacremento. He is broke for leadline, I think he will be easy enough to train. He is very good looking, built like a small horse. I am not sure about the vse driving. I will have to check it out and see if the minis are working too hard.
