I am curious to know what people are most interested in for an award in a class at a show.

Hmm as an exhibitor a rosette the credit would be nice for me but raven loves a rosette she can hang on our farm sign at the show

as someone who has put on a show with VERY limited funds I see the need and appeal of strip ribbons the difference in cost is amazing and really how many rosettes can you hang in your house.

Raven has some in her room but in the living roomI just have the Nationals ribbons and have donated the rest to small clubs or back to the club at the show

I personally love the rosettes. Strip ribbons are too "plain" but I can see using them for budget reasoning.

voted Rosette. What we do now, is keep the first and seconds and give the other ribbons 3rd, 4th, and 5th back not too say we do not appreciate them, but we do not display all our ribbons now, and just helps to give back for the next show season, as long as the year is not on.

Now Trophies I will take any day....

Rosette Definatly :D!

I really really wish that in Ontario we had the neck sash ribbons for grand and supreme. Then when wee got grand Id have a awesome pic of him with a ribbon liek that on his neck though we did get a trophy lol

After you've showed for a few years it becomes hard to find a place to display

that many ribonsor even store without wrinkling them

I like what they do at the Pinto shows.....

You buy a small plaque at a low cost....then they hand out small metal

plates with the placing on it.....it has metal rings - holes on the bottom so you

can attach them together.....

It takes up less room to display and even at a quick glance you can see

what your placings were at a distance......as the metal plates are the same

color as a ribbon would be..... Grand Champions still get neck ribbons...

Do you have a picture of that? sounds pretty cool it also sounds pretty cost effective??for larger clubs anyway

Lea Dill was the show manager for our show in Tunica this last year and she came up with a really great idea....the rosettes were given out, and you could turn them in at the tack vendor there at the show for a $.50 credit. Before we left we bought a couple of halters. Worked for us! You have the pleasure of receiving a ribbon in the show arena, even displaying on your curtiain until the end of the show, then turning them in for credit. Still cheaper than buying a whole new ribbon the next year.

I'm with Lisa, this sounds neat. Pictures please. This sounds like a really good idea.

We're still unpacking........I'll see if I can find any of them tomorrow......

I'll also check with my friend to see if she know the comparative cost of those

in comparison to ribbons........

I prefer the rossettes, but again it's more just the win and points that really matter for me. Rossettes are nice to hang and display and several years ago when I first started showing you couldn't pry them out of my hands.

That being said, I do understand why flat ribbons are used as our club has hosted shows before and money comes into play in everything, and you can buy flat ribbons in bulk for a minimal cost, which helps offset other cost of putting on a show. But that said, our club voted to keep the rossettes and in our show programs state such. If that meant $1 extra per class instead of $15, $16 we thought it would be an attraction. Neck sashes are nice for Grands or Supremes; though my personal favorite is something like a halter bag or cooler for Supreme as it's something you can "use". Those flat strip ribbons did come in handy this fall in the making of my dress for convention though...

I like Rosettes. Strip ribbons seem so small for all the work you put into showing and money you spend. You kinda want something worth while to bring home. But hey any ribbon is better than none at all.

I voted for the .50 credit, even though I've never seen that done. I think that sounds like a great deal! Sure would help with the cost of going to a show! I know clubs rely on that as their main incomes but it still sounds like a great idea to me.

We don't have tack vendors at every show, but credit towards that sounds like a neat idea too.

I really like Nancy, Equuisize's, description though, that sounds REALLY cool! I can't wait til you can find a picture!

We give back all our local ribbons. I keep grands and reserves, but don't get very many so their still special to me. And I keep all my regional/world ribbons & awards, those are definitely special to me. Although I've run out of places to hang plaques. I still have local ribbons from when I was showing Copper, and I'll probably keep them as they were the first ribbons I won.

I think ribbons or something tangible is important for the youth, especially 12 and under. But, as someone else said, I've learned now points are more important to me!

For all our local shows we donate our ribbons back. I like getting the rosettes to display at the show, then we take them home and take a photo of all our ribbons and prizes from that show, then package up all the ribbons and give them back to be used again next year.

I voted for the rosettes because they look like you have won something. I think the strips look chintzy.

Our pinto club went with the little metal plaques that you put on the bigger one with the club name on it like you all have been interested in. It is a little cheaper than the rosettes and we usually have anywhere from 3-8 judges so if your horse does well you can put all the metal placings in an area that a couple rosettes would take up on your wall.

What we have also done is hand out colored paper for the placings, and for those that don't want the ribbons, they can write their name on it for a drawing for free stall at our next show.
