Sorry, i should have been more clear, we have ALWAYS used sterile water only!!!!!! I also found out last year you have to have a prescription for sterile water, so i buy it by the case from my Vet. We also have Lactated Ringers at the office i work in, however it has Dextrose in it and i was unsure about useing it, would that be safe, or is sterile water better to use??Although there are many things here I don't agree with, I will concede that these things are opinions and Dr. Blackwelder is certainly entitled to his.
I would encourage you to check again with him about using water as the flush solution. Saline or Lactated Ringers is generally regarded as far less inflammatory than water would be. I would be hesitant to use water unless breeding was not going to be imminent (I only use water on mares that have retained placentas).
