Although there are many things here I don't agree with, I will concede that these things are opinions and Dr. Blackwelder is certainly entitled to his.

I would encourage you to check again with him about using water as the flush solution. Saline or Lactated Ringers is generally regarded as far less inflammatory than water would be. I would be hesitant to use water unless breeding was not going to be imminent (I only use water on mares that have retained placentas).

Sorry, i should have been more clear, we have ALWAYS used sterile water only!!!!!! I also found out last year you have to have a prescription for sterile water, so i buy it by the case from my Vet. We also have Lactated Ringers at the office i work in, however it has Dextrose in it and i was unsure about useing it, would that be safe, or is sterile water better to use??

My FAVORITE mare had her first foal.....then her second foal 2 years later....then her third foal 3 years later and now she just foaled her fourth foal 4 years later...... She is just a very hard breeder but I LOVE her.

I have several mares that come up open year after year and then one year they just catch. So don't give up.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I will def be getting the vet out to chek her out and will try again.
