My little Jack Russell has small lumps on his legs & a few on his head. We think he tried to dig in an ant bed. Should I give him Benadryl? Is that okay? He's acting fine, but I'm still a little concerned.
My black lab X JRT, got into some fireweed, at my sisters house..I gave her childrens benadryl tablets (that was all she had on hand) and it took the swelling right down and away. Years ago, my Great Dane got bit by a bee, and it puffed up his ears so thick they felt like they were stuffed with cotton, I rushed him into the vet and he gave me benadryl for that too. Worked great and took the swelling down in no time. Corinne
I have had to use adult Benedryl on my sheltie, I give him one pill he is around 30lbs(I know he's a whale). Had to do it when he was getting prednisone for a reaction to a Leptospirosis vaxxine and I have also had to use it a couple of other times when he has had throat swelling from unknown causes.
It makes Ted a little sleepy and it sure does give them a welcome relief.
My black lab weighs about 60 pounds and she gets two 25mg Benadryl a day for her allergies, one in the am and one in the pm. I think she's allergic to the cats!
My mix is about 45lbs he gets a 25mg when his grass allergies flair up in the late spring. I have also had to give it to my 110lb lab...he is allergic to bee stings...one time he got stung by some hornets (we couldn't tell how many but it was a few)...we were camping and he started blowing up and throwing up/ couldn't stand...we called the nearest vet and he said give him as many benadryl that we can get in him...but not to exceed 250mg (that's 10 people over the counter benadryl)...we were worried, but we did it... in a few minutes he was fine. Now we carry around shots for him in the summer.
