Does anyone own a Bengal? I guess I didn't even realize they were around. Gorgeous house cats but WOW are they expensive!!! I have seen them for about $800 There are a variety of coat colors and patterns. It's pretty interesting.

Post photos if you have any, would love to see them.

A friend of mine used to have one. He was a beautiful cat but had some issues with house training and she had to rehome him.

I have 2 Bengals and I LOVE them! They are very unique in their habits, behaviour and vocalization. Plus they are gorgeous and soooooooo soft. They are both 3 years old.

This is my male spotted, Mowgli.

12 weeks old

Gorgeous cats!

When you mention that they are unique in their habits, behaviour and vocalization can you explain what you mean? How are they different from a regular house cat? (for lack of a better word)

Very very pretty!!!

My friend owns a Bengal and he's such a love, and so handsome. He has the best big green eyes.

Please make sure you do a LOT of research on them, though, and take the time to find a GOOD breeder (i.e., not out of the newspaper). I think they're lovely and wouldn't mind having one someday.

I don't have one but if I could have a cat, that would be my choice. I was going to work the other day and there was a Bengal playing on the side of the road... :DOH!

I've never bought a purebred cat in my life as we always adopt from shelters but if I did, it would probably be either a Bengal or a Pixie Bob! I LOVE the fact they supposedly enjoy playing in water, I think that's just so cool in a cat.

We owned a Bengal and she was a cool cat but honestly I thought there was a lot of hype to the breed.

She was expensive but my hubby really wanted her.

She was very vocal and it is a different sound than a regular cat. She was funky, loved to play in the sink. Very affectionate. She was very active too and remained kitten like even as an adult.

I had to rehome her because she would mark in the house, even after being spayed.

Honestly, I think they are pretty but I have 2 regular tiger kittens. They were free and live in my barn! They are equally as pretty, cool markings, equally friendly and loving but not as loud!!

I love tiger cats but I would never buy another Bengal, I would prefer my beautiful free tiger kitties:)

I have known a few different Bengals and none have impressed me enough to pay $500 ++ for them.

JMHO, no offense meant.

Where shall I begin...

They have a huge range to their voices and sometimes I swear they are saying words! They will sing and chatter in the middle of the night if they feel they can't wait until morning to tell you. My boyfriend and I have to just sit and laugh at the sounds they can make.

They do have a attraction to water. Mine don't want to be doused but will get into the shower to play at the egde of the water. I also had to design a holder for the water bowl or it spends all of it's time upside down.

They like to climb and no where in the house is off limits.

They are a little more challenging to house train. I know the kinds of things my cats like to use and don't leave them lying around. The male still uses the bathroom sink from time to time but I guess it could be worse.

Both of mine are very snuggly and lovable, neither has ever bitten or scratched at me. They have their claws but only use their scratching posts.

Find a reputable breeder and only look at cats that are many generations of Bengal to Bengal crosses. The F1 and F2 generations are much closer to wild and not as good as house pets. No reputable breeder should sell an F1 or 2 as a pet.

My husband has talked about these cats. They are gorgeous cats but that "challenging" to housebreak is not for me. There is nothing worse than cat urine where it doesnt belong. Looks like he isnt getting one.

I have two Saluki friends in Tennessee who breed and one shows them:

Stonehenge Bengals

Actually $800. is pretty reasonable for a Bengal kitten.

I love the looks of them, too. One of our barn cats (born here)

is actually spotted, and my friends laugh that I finally got my "Bengal".

LOL!

I lucked into a Bengal - actually half Bengal but looked purebred - a couple of years ago. She was gorgeous, and a really unique cat (and free). Also, unfortunately, a hunter. It was right after we had moved, I had a big kennel I was locking the cats in at night and after awhile she got to where she wouldn't come in at night. I tracked her down through the trees for 30 minutes a couple of nights, and finally gave up.....didn't take but a couple of nights before she was gone.

I'd love to have another but doubt I'd pay what the purebreds go for. My vet had a client who raised them and got as much as $2000-3000 for them. For that my barn kitties look pretty good LOL.

My boss has a Bengal -- and it likes to take showers -- plays in the water. Very active and lots of fun

I have been breeding and showing Bengals for 6 years now and enjoying every minute of it. They are very loving and highly entertaining cats. Never have any problem selling kittens all over the world, and people readily reserve upcoming kittens. I also spay/neuter my kittens before they leave. There is alot of time and work involved with raising healthy socialized kittens. They don't leave until they are 12 weeks old too. Here is one of my favorite pictures of silver and brown spotted kittens raiding the refridgerator. I also included the link to my website so you can see the others if you would like.

thank you so much, Montage is a beautiful loving purr bug too!! He was just retired and adopted out to a loving forever home. Our breeding cats are always used for a few litters and retired to homes where they get the extra loving they always want. Of course I have some of the girls in my home that are spayed because I fall in love with them too and can't let them go.

So tell me about the house breaking thing. Is it hard to train them? Do they use other spots of the house? As you can see here I am weakening. They are just beautiful cats. The only thing that scares me is the possibilty of the cat not using the litter box.
