I had to go to the dermatologist for a spot on my hand. While there, I asked him why my fingernails suddenly began peeling off in layers. He suggested 1000 U of Biotin daily.

I make sure my horse vitamins have biotin, but never thought to take any myself! So, I've been on it nearly a week and I figure it will take at least 6 weeks to notice a difference.

My diet has changed in the last year, as my husband stopped smoking and is trying to control bp with diet. We are eating differently.

So, what does anyone know about biotin? Or fingernails!

Makes a horses hoof tough as nails!! Why not your fingernails....I'd think yes.

That is an interesting thought. If i remember correctly i think they used to say jello or gelatin was good for growing strong finger nails.

Yep... biotin is good for growing hair (fingernails and hooves are made of hair!).

Prenatal vitamins are good for hair and nails too, but you'd have to see how your diet is. But if your doc says biotin, go for it!
