How far back do you clip your minis bridle/halter path? Not sure if its bridle,or halter,or.... with minis. :bgrin lol

it depends on what you do with the horse. with show horses their bridle paths are like half their mane. for me, only an inch or two, just to have a place to put the halter.

While the oft-repeated axiom is the length of the ear when laid back against the neck, bridle path length really depends upon the horse and what flatters that individual's neck. In my opinion, however, half the mane NEVER looks good on any horse...reminds me of an almost bald man with a pony tail. I would take it back bit by bit until you find a flattering length.

Another factor is neck carriage. To my eye, an upheaded horse whose mane falls back and clear of the throat latch/neck can handle more mane, less bridle path.

I agree with Susanne. Start with laying the horse's ear back and measure from that. Then, take a little more off at a time, if necessary. TOO much off looks like someone is hiding a flaw, IMO.

Thats why I was asking, because some people seem to cut half or more of the mane, then others do just a few inches,or ear length.I guess its just a matter of personal preferance.

I would probably start with a few inches, depending on the horses head, neck and throat latch, and go from there.Wanted to hear some opinions, and would like to see examples to!

i did a bridle path on my filly and as i was clipping her, she dropped her head and i messed it up big time, so be CAREFUL WITH THOSE CLIPPERS LOL i was at a show this year and was told by the judge that she had the best conformation, yet was put last ,as he told me after because of the bridle path being to long, so i now have the painfull task of growing it out this winter  , i think that an inch behind the ear back is ok for us over here in ireland anyway

If this is for a show I take it where the mane begins to the point of the shoulder. If this is just for home, take a ear back and clip to there.
