Not sure if this is the right spot to post, sorry if it is in the wrong spot, but I am beside myself. I LOVE to take pictures just point and shoot and download an play a bit with them on my computer well my most awesome camera got dropped on Christmas eve and is now not working correctly(it is about 6 years old also), I need input on what cameras all of you used and pros and cons. I am looking for something that I can grab and point and shoot(because we all know horses won't wait for you to set up the camera and neither will grandchildren) my current camera is a Kodak easyshare DX6440 4x optical zoom and 4 mp, I would like at least 8 mp and 5 optical zoom, something that has a recharger also. So what do you all think???

My camera is a Canon S5IS. I love it. You can point and shoot or you can change settings. It has lots of options.

I like the fact if your batteries are dead you can use 4AA.

Fairly reasonable priced I think I paid around 400 for it.

I have one of the very basic Canon Power Shot (SD750). Got it through Amazon.com a couple of years ago. Completely idiot proof and takes excellent photos of minis (I keep it down at the barn, in fact). Each year the cameras get more powerful. The only problem I have is a slight delay between pushing the button and the photo being taken. Sometimes produces interesting results!

I'm partial to my DSLR but I bought my daughter a Canon SD1100 for Christmas '08 and she loves it. Very small and very portable. Lots of zoom and I believe 8MP.

I have my Canon SX10 IS and LOVE it. It's a step down from a DSLR so much more user friendly, although it is a larger type of camera but has most functions of an SLR

It depends on what is the most important to you. I wanted one that would shoot short videos, shoot in "burst" mode (rapid fire), have a long zoom (10-12X), shoot really high quality (lots of megapixels), and be small and easy to use. I Googled digital cameras and found a site where you could select the options you wanted and it listed cameras and prices. I ended up getting a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS1, which has all the features I like plus a 12X zoom lens. I really like it - except for the fact it broke a few months after I got it, but it was replaced with no hassle under the warranty. I notice that it gets more use than my husband's Leica digital SLR.
