Katiean, I think what miniheart was saying is that they know someone who purchased a small fog from them on a spay/neuter contract with limited registration and no breeding rights, and the new owner is now breeding dogs and exploiting them as being "teacup" saying they are registered (which they cant be, since the sire had limited registration, his offspring cant be registered) and clamining they are vet checked when they know they sold a puppy with parvo. I think shes just trying to show that other animals are also exploited for being tiny when it isnt always the best thing for that specific animal or breed.

Yes, Thank you Mydaddysjag. I did not post that to offend or portray anything. Just another instance of people being completely stupid with animals for their own gain when it isn't suppose to be about them, it's about what's best for the animal. I agree, not all 'teacups' or dwarfs are sickly and die or anything, most if not all can live long, happy lives with little or no effort, I just don't believe they should be bred or sold as luxury items. I am happy your little baby is a healthy, happy baby!

Here is an example of how ignorant people are. My husband and I went to a mini horse/mini donkey sale in the fall of 2009. We went to check out sale prices and to purchase some tack. There really were some nice horses there being offered for sale with impressive pedigrees. They even had a pregnant daughter of Buckaroo, buckskin and double registered. She went for $350. They had two dwafes that sold for over $1000.00 each. Then a seller came into the ring and told the bidders that her horse was a minimal trying to get her horses price up! The highest the good horses went for was $600. and they were only a few, average was $350. with some going for as little as $75. The dwafes were the high selling horses. Shame!

All we can do is continue to try to educate the unknowing public and make it known about dwarves and their health problems, etc.. and hopefully people will quit paying higher prices for the problems they are going to inherit and will hopefully invest in a healthy pet that will be around for many years that the family can enjoy.

Ditto. This is what I see at a local sale here in Missouri. It's in Macon, MO. There are some nice, registered, strong-pedigreed horses that go through that sale from time to time and they don't bring very much. But someone (and I will find out whom if it's the last thing I do!

) is supplying a constant stream of dwarves to be sold and sell they do! Even today they are selling for $1000 each. My guess is it's the same farm, over and over, continuing to produce them because they sell. Some are so bad off and others aren't. Either way, unsuspecting people get caught up in the hype and buy them. Super tiny sells...no matter how poor the conformation.

On another note, just to drive home the tiny sells thing, whenever people come to my farm it's always the tiniest ones they ohhh and ahhh over the most. If I had a dollar for every time someone said "why don't you breed those two and make a really tiny baby?" referring to Mira and Pete, I'd be rich! I politely explain that although both are adorable, they are not a good compliment for each other and I explain why, but they don't want to hear it. They just want to see what a 27" mare and 27" stallion will produce. Guess what? Not going to happen! Not because I think you can't breed tiny to tiny, but if you're going to, they'd better be a darn good compliment to each other.
