We recently acquired a little stallion that has had the same problem with a runny/snotty nose his whole life (from what I am told). He has chronic snotty nose that is usually the same color as his feed, as well as that he drools when he is worked. He has been checked for a cleft palate and that is not the case. We plan to have a vet check him out soon, but thought I would ask here and see if anyone has experienced this?

Thanks!

How are his teeth?

He could have an abcess perhaps? Or something causing him to swallow his food wrong and get it into his sinuses?

His teeth were done last summer, and other than that, he is slightly overshot. But very slightly. This has been an issue with him for at least the last few years. He is 9 years old. He eats well and his weight is good (well, too good in fact).

I have seen quite a few minis with this issue especially if they have an off bite. What happens is they aspirate feed into their sinuses. This can cause chronic sinus infections. I do know one person took theirs to ISU and they did something that finally gave the horse some relief. I cant remember exactly what but it did involve surgery

Also getting an equine dentist may help

Best wishes

Kay
