Oh, I love that picture of Deception! Technically she's a seal brown roan but like most seal brown roans she looks like a blue roan.
:
I'll be adding another blue roan mare to the herd later this month - Dicky Doo Oracle Rose, Deception's maternal granddam! No pictures of her yet - I'll take some fuzzy ones when I get her home from Nebraska.
Here's second most recent addition to the roan line up - a two year old red roan pinto mare named Big Time's Anna:
Anna will be bred to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year - hoping for a blue roan (it will be pinto).
And here's my bay roan Royal Rapture - she's Aa so can produce blue roans.
If not sold she will likely also be bred to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year in hopes of a blue roan (it will be pinto).
My 19 year old RBD Rip's Centennial Souvenir is in foal to Willowlawn's Mr. Unique for 2008. If it's a true roan it will likely be a bay (haven't had Unique tested but with his pedigree chances are good that he will test AA which means no black or blue roan foals). I also plan to breed her to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year. She had two blue roan pintos and one black pinto with him and all were exceptional (and stayed small enough for AMHR).
Other folks who have blue roans -
--Bellevue Farm -
http://www.bellevuefarm.com - they own the blue roan stallion Baron's Benny VB in partnership with Hopwood's Pony Ranch -
http://www.hopwoodsponyranch.com and had two nice blue roan minimal tobiano colts sired by him this year out of Red Rock mares.
--Hopwood's Pony Ranch owns several blue roan mares of various ages and along with Baron's Benny VB they own the blue roan stallion B&D's Blue Buddy.
--Royal Pony Farm owns a blue roan daughter of McCall's Blue Chip Cody (the blue roan going gray stallion Iown in partnership with Bellevue Farm) and a silver roan daughter of Baron's Benny VB plus a couple of bay roan mares.
There are roans to be found but they aren't as common as they used to be back when Vern Benna was breeding them!
