I have found some but they are few and far between.

Anyone know of any?

Thanks

I got my blue roan girl from Lewella at Platte Ridge. Here's Plattes Deception Perfected.

Oh, I love that picture of Deception! Technically she's a seal brown roan but like most seal brown roans she looks like a blue roan.

I'll be adding another blue roan mare to the herd later this month - Dicky Doo Oracle Rose, Deception's maternal granddam! No pictures of her yet - I'll take some fuzzy ones when I get her home from Nebraska.

Here's second most recent addition to the roan line up - a two year old red roan pinto mare named Big Time's Anna:

Anna will be bred to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year - hoping for a blue roan (it will be pinto).

And here's my bay roan Royal Rapture - she's Aa so can produce blue roans.

If not sold she will likely also be bred to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year in hopes of a blue roan (it will be pinto).

My 19 year old RBD Rip's Centennial Souvenir is in foal to Willowlawn's Mr. Unique for 2008. If it's a true roan it will likely be a bay (haven't had Unique tested but with his pedigree chances are good that he will test AA which means no black or blue roan foals). I also plan to breed her to Wauk-A-Way Brave Bear next year. She had two blue roan pintos and one black pinto with him and all were exceptional (and stayed small enough for AMHR).

Other folks who have blue roans -

--Bellevue Farm - http://www.bellevuefarm.com - they own the blue roan stallion Baron's Benny VB in partnership with Hopwood's Pony Ranch - http://www.hopwoodsponyranch.com and had two nice blue roan minimal tobiano colts sired by him this year out of Red Rock mares.

--Hopwood's Pony Ranch owns several blue roan mares of various ages and along with Baron's Benny VB they own the blue roan stallion B&D's Blue Buddy.

--Royal Pony Farm owns a blue roan daughter of McCall's Blue Chip Cody (the blue roan going gray stallion Iown in partnership with Bellevue Farm) and a silver roan daughter of Baron's Benny VB plus a couple of bay roan mares.

There are roans to be found but they aren't as common as they used to be back when Vern Benna was breeding them!

I have a 1985 model true blue roan mare that has produced two bay roans and one dark chestnut roan for me. She came out of Don Chegwidden's herd several years ago. Also a nice blue roan weanling colt bred by Phyllis Hopwood sold at our North Texas sale earlier this month (the lady that bought him might be willing to sell him). Jill Comfert in AR also has a nice blue roan mare that was bred by Don Chegwidden. I do not think that she would sell her though. She had a chestnut roan this year by Jill's Rock E stallion. I am not sure if he has any more but Lewis Hamilton also used to have some nice true blue roans. The good blue roan color is hard to find. All of the true roans brought good money at our sale in October so I think it is a color that is coming back in demand. You still do not see many in the Shetland show ring right now.

I haven't heard of Lewis Hamilton, does he have email or a web site, also what is his farm name?

Thanks everyone for the good info!

Lewis and Evelyn Hamilton from Davis City, IA. Phone number: 641-442-8222. Their ponies' prefix is LE. Not sure if Lewis is raising any ponies right now but he has brought some pretty roans to the North Texas Pony Sale in the past. He was not able to come to the sale this year. He is very well know for driving and training pony teams. He would be worth calling and talking too. Also, I will look through my photos but I am pretty sure that Phyllis Hopwood has a breeding age blue roan or blue roan pinto stallion for sale. You can give her a call at 308-946-5095. Not sure what she has in blue roan mares and/or if she would part with one!

Wa-Full farms has had blue roans too.
