NO idea what color "Eddie" is!

Sire is black overo (from black overo x red pinto)

Dam is black pinto ( buckskin pinto x red pinto)

But dam is a weird color of "black" and I always wondered if she might be a dark smutty buckskin.

Eddie has weird colored eyes. Kind of greyish blue and he's always been a pewter color. But now he looks like the center photo. See the 2nd colt down http://www.rokominis.com/website1_005.htm

He carries one copy of red and one copy of black. But that doesn't tell me what color he is for this registration.

Help please!

Maybe the dam is smokey black not just black? So if she were, then he could be smokey black too? Personally if I am in doubt of color, I test to be sure.

I would color test too-he looks like he could be a smokey black, but also looks like he could be a faded black. I would just put black on his papers though.

Happy paper-working!

I am doing my last minute stuff too (sigh)

Interesting Reo. He almost looks like a smutty buckskin himself. And if not for his mane and tail, he resembles some silvers. Could be a smutty buckskin, if his dam turns out to be. I see he does have darker shading on the legs. Nothing like Minis, for making us crazy, trying to figure out colour before we test.

Lizzie

All of my smutty buckskins were born buckskin-no question (were all what people consider buttermilk buckskin) and then darkened up with age. One went so far as to looking completely black except for having splotches of the cinnamon colored hairs on his sides. He was interesting! Not sure if anyone else has had smutty buckskins born very dark, but thought i'd share my experience.

Thanks!

No time to test! I have to get him reg before Jan 1st! He used to look more pewter. But not as much now.

A few of his dam's other foals have had strange color that made me wonder about buckskin.

I guess I'll just put down black. Although I think something else is going on with him! It'd be interesting to find out!

Thanks

That's what I've always thought too.

But for quick registration, black it is

I hope to someday test his mom because I've always thought she carried a copy of cream from her sire.

He looks *just* like my smokey black little guy (right down to the connect star/snip). When clipped he gets that pewter color too. His sire was a smokey black tobiano and his dam was a palomino. His coat sort of varies between summer, winter, and clipped.

Not a whole body picture, but its from when he was under a year and shows the contrast in mane vs body like your little guy

Not the best show but this shows his "true" summer coat. The flash lets you see the kind of brownish/sooty color. And you can see his lighter mane. He's REALLY prone to sun bleaching and a lot of the time his body will be lighter and his legs darker because of it. It's not so bad in this photo

I think Whypy is a smokey black and he is too. JMO But no way to know for sure without a test for cream. I think either way he would be registered as just "black" with the registries.

He could be a Seal Brown ;)

I had two Fillies both Seal Brown

and one I mis-registered her as Black

I originally thought she was a Smokey Black, then had her tested for Cream

no Cream
