We are participating in our local Christmas parade in 3 weeks.

We do not drive, but still want to take horses for the parade.

Do you have ideas for costumes, for both humans and horse? Will be my 12 year old son and myself. My 7 year old grandson as well, but he will not have a horse. He is pulling his wagon, which is a replica of a covered wagon, for snacks and water for horses and to use to put a sign on if we decide.

Oh, no Santa costumes allowed as the real Santa will be in the parade.

So give me something different, and FUN!

Hm, not "different", but the horses could be reindeer and the people could be elves. It would be cute anyway!

Well you can put the little "doggie" antlers on your horses, use green/red vet wrap on their legs, bells around them.

One year, I took a Christmas tree rug, the thing you put around the bottom of the tree, and made a blanket for my stallion. I pinned the wireless lights around it and sewed bells around it. We put a Santa hat on him too. I also bought Christmas socks and cut the foot out, used the "tube" for leggings on the horses.

This is exactly what we do in the 4 or 5 Christmas parades that we participate in. The horses are reindeer & the walkers are elves. I've seen other costumes that are more of a Victorian theme which were gorgeous! They also looked nice & warm with the long cloaks. I'm sure any mini horse decorated up would be well received. Check if the parade has a special theme? besides Christmas of course. Don't forget a poop scooper

Always a humerous happening to city folks!

If you go that route, theme, then what do you do with the horses? I can visualize the people, but not the horses.

How about presents? The horses could be cute packages wrapped in ribbons & bows? Sugar plums? Candy canes? Ornaments on the tree? Have fun!!!

Can you list me some Childrens Christmas Stories, maybe that would help?

If it helps any, the horses we are taking, one is a black and white pinto, one is a solid bay.

The horses were pulling a cart which had loads of blankets & I think was done up as a cutter on wheels? It suited the Victorian theme well. If you are walking then perhaps the horses could be outfitted in something Christmas'y from that time period? Again I really like the sugar plum..candy cane idea.

I do have another 5 year old grandson and daughter-in-law who will dress up in costumes to complete what ever theme we decide on.

So we have up to 5 people, 3 who are kids, 2 horses and a covered wagon. Can probably locate other "equipment" if need be.

So just what are we going to do with us??????

Twas the night before Christmas?

Have the kids, the reindeer, could dress one like a mouse? Presents & a tree in the wagon? Where do I put the chimney?

What is the "have" to for that story?? Jump in here!!!

Never fear, your HOlIDAY GAL IS HERE !!!I would totally do a CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS THEME and have all the kids dressed up like the PEANUTS GANG.

Your black and white horse would totally be SNOOPY.

The wagon could have a very tattered tiny tree wrapped at the bottom in Linus's blanket.

What do you think?

Instead of doing one story, our addition to the theme will simply be,

Childrens Christmas Stories.

My son and his b/w gelding as, Charlie Brown Christmas, Charlie Brown and Snoopy,

and me and my Bay as the Grinch and his dog.

One grandson per each of us to finish out our theme.

Well???????

I'de like to jump in here! My saddle club competed in last year's Christmas Parade and we won! the theme for that year was Rock and Roll Christmas which was an easy one to do. I had the only mini, and he had a poodle skirt that I made in Green with white poodles on it, musical notes, and 50's song titles. He was the hit of the parade. He also had antlers. This year our theme is Christmas in Dixie and we will have several miniatures. We are thinking about having those in carts dressed in formal dresses with big floppy straw hats (aka Scarlett) and plumes on the horses or wrap the horses in rebel flags. Those that are riding will be in dresses as well. Don't know yet about the fellas. We have 4 weeks to get ours ready too. WE had so much fun last year, I hope the weather is nice this year.
