I am thinking about starting to show and have little greying guy and wonder if he would be good to start out with. He is AMHA and AMHR and is about 30.50". I don't have a show halter yet, he isn't quite clipped so nice or placed so perfect in the pics but you should get an idea. Honest opinions are wanted!

I say go ahead! The only thing I have to say is that his hooves look like they need to be trimmed.. But other than that, good luck! I love his expressive eyes.

Kim, If YOU want to show your horse GO FOR IT...... :aktion033: Nothing else matters as far as critiques at this point when your just starting out in the show world(your gaining experience and trying to decide if it's something you and your horse enjoy).....showing is about enjoying YOUR horse, putting your best effort forward and having fun while being a good representative of our breed. At least that's how I try to approach it.....

Speaking from really good experience, if showing is something you want to try.....don't worry about anything else but getting out there and experiencing the ring. You will meet people, learn and ask questions after the show that will give you a feel what to do your next show. REMEMBER.....just give it a try and then you can go from there......have FUN and I wish you the best! :saludando:

He's cute and I'd say give it a try! The photos look like he needs a hoof trim and I see you mentioned he was done shortly after

I think he looks pretty nice!

Muscle him up and then work some grooming magic, you will be very impressed.

I'm going to say I bet he'd be way more competitive in the gelding arena than the stallion, but that's just my opinion.

How old is he??

How big is he??

Are you having him gelded, (as I agree with above post)

What were you thinking of showing in- ie Local Shows, |AMHA?? AMHR??

This is a very nervous time when you are getting ready for your first show. My advice from only being in the position a wee while ago, is have fun your horse looks brilliant and with that bit of grooming before a show you will see him shine. Ask some others before the show for their tips and just enjoy the day because my first show is one of the best memories i have.

Good luck

I think he'd make a pretty competive show gelding once neatened and toned up. He's a good looking boy!

I know nothing about showing but he deifnately is eyecatching!

I definately like him and I always think a good horse looks good completely natural with no fancy photos. Your boy does!

I definately think you will have fun showing him!

He would catch my eye

His name is Star. When he was born, he was colored bay and had a star. He still has it, just more blended with the grey. Here he is at 2 days old.

rabbitsfizz - he is 2 1/2 and is about 30.50". There are AMHR and AMHA shows here all about 1 - 2 hours away and I hear it's more fun to start out showing in the AMHR as show people tend to be very competitive in the AMHA shows.

I am just wondering why you guys think he would do better as a gelding?

There are many, many threads on here about why most horses are better off as geldings.

I do think he is sweet but if he is this heavy as a two year old (hence asking how old he is) then he is going to have very, VERY stiff competition in the stallion ring.

I am afraid for me a horse has to be better than good to make it as a stallion and, cute as your chap is he does not have that quality for me.

If you gelded him you would have a nice, well behaved useful little horse that you can show without any hassle.

Stallions are a lot of work, no matter how well behaved.

Also how many mares do you have??

How often is he going to be bred??

Without mares to keep him happy he will, eventually, become a problem.

Better to cut out the problems at the beginning
