I have had Direcway satellite since the Summer of 2003, and it's worked ok most times, but have had several problems with the equipment (probably due to our high amount of rain in this region).

That being said, I upgraded to the DW6000 this last Spring, and it seemed lots better to deal with tech support issues with.

But this last month or so, I have had a lot of problems with dropouts and TCP Acceleration issues. I've been on the phone with Tech Support multiple times in a day, yet their "fixes" only last a few minutes sometimes.

The last few days I've had a problem with emails bouncing, too.

Anyone else who has Direcway, are you experiencing similar problems?

(just wondering if it's on their end or if I should get a tech out here for a service call and quit messing around w/the ppl on the phone).

Wish I had an option for internet service that wasn't phone based (our lines are too decrepit to support anything other thant 24 kbps max and that is S-L-O-W.)

Liz, I sure would like to hear more opinions about this. I was just ready to look into Direcway Satellite........we have one of those terrible phone lines too ... 24 kbps. We have SWBell and even though they advertise on TV how you can get DSL and all kinds of stuff bundled together, we have lousy service and they tell us there are no plans in the works for us to EVER get a high speed connection!

This is soooo frustrating!

p.s. we've been told that satellite isn't too good either. That's the reason we have stayed with our slow land line.

Liz, we just had the Direcway satellite put in a few weeks ago. It sure doesn't match what we had before we moved, but it's much better than dial up. Lived with that for about a week and said nope, can't do it. I don't think we've had the problems you've been having - we had a hard time getting it to work initially but the worst thing that's happened seems to have been getting bumped off aol more than usual and I"m not sure that's their fault.

Charlotte, if you have been living with a dial up connection, you will love it. We had high speed internet at the old house, this isn't as fast but no comparison with dial up.

I don't get this and maybe someone can explain it to me.

We have sattelite tv but every time it rains hard, or snows, we get interference and if it doesn't stop, we have no tv at all .

Now for the computer it says we need a clear view of a northern sky. That's easy. We are in the clouds but they do tell me the same things would happen to cause intereference with it too. So why would they even bother to have this service in the first place?

Liz, I have learned never to listen to tech support. They don't know what is going on in your computer. They just read from a book of troubleshooting and it's guess work. They have messed me up a lot saying to go to "my computer" and then do this and that blah blah blah and then it takes my computer man a session to get it all back working right.

My service is lousy. Too many computers in a very small town with not enough lines and my dial up is so sloooowwww.

Had same problem w/ direcway, had the "tech" guy out here, couldn't fix it all he wanted to do was put the dishes on poles and us pay MORE, $200 per pole. Then he didn't even know if that would fix it. Wish I could get cable out here, direcway stinks.

We have had the Direcway for two years and I think both of us would go nuts if we had to go back to dialup. We can't get dsl because we are to far from main boxes. The only problem we have had is understanding their tech support staff(outsourced to India we were told). The clouds have to get really heavy before it knocks out the tv or the computers and by that time i want to turn them off anyhow
