Hi,

I did a search on this, but found nothing it.

Do you give your horse(s)/ponies vaccine boosters before hauling them to National/World shows? If so, when and what do you give?

I'm thinking it's a very good idea, what with all the other equines they come in contact with.

Thanks!!!

Kari

Kari, all of my show horses are boostered every 2-3 months during the show season with Rhino/Flu. So yes, my show horses will be vaccinated before going to World.

like becky we do rhino/flu boosters

Im not a big believer in the strangles vaccine so we only do that one once per year

I don't routinely give Strangles vaccine, so no, it's not part of my vaccination schedule.

KayKay and Becky, why don't you guys like/do the strangles?

Just curious...

The strangles vaccines are not overly effective unless a horse is vaccinated against a particular strain that it might get which would be virtually impossible. So, as a general rule, I choose to not vaccinate for strangles.

Like Becky we found that the strangles vaccine is not very effective and rarely prevents strangles. And really what you are mostly going to pick up at shows is rhino, flu or a virus (and you cant vaccinate for a virus)
