This is our (mine and Des's) stud colt, and he will be shown as a yearling this year. Since he arrived (back in november), he has grown and started to mature! Here are some pictures. Please let us know how he looks.

Sorry, I would have liked to get better pics, but we had a freezing rain storm while we were taking pictures, so the horses were spooking, and I had to do them fast

Maybe I'll try getting better ones this weekend.

What a nice boy! Love that odd facial marking going up to his eye. And I am partial to black and white anyway

edited to question..is he stretching himself forward that he is on his toes in his hind feet?

He's a cutie! I also noticed his pointy toes...It kinda looks awkward like hes standing up on them. But other than that he's a nice lil guy! Love his facial markings! love the neck and head!

Really like him! Gorgeous!

But...I was wondering the same thing. The front hooves have been trimmed way too short. The back? Are his toes jutting into the gravel? Regardless, he's got some hoof to grow out on all four. Take off a bit more heel and let that toe grow out a bit; he's standing pretty upright due to his trim job -not his conformation...which looks awesome-.

His feet arent actually like that (back digging in the ground)...he was standing on icky/slushy soft ground. Were currently working on getting his feet done nice. I agree, I don't like how they were done.... I'll try to find a different picture where he's standing on solid ground...

K.

Alright, here is one from him standing in the barn today. We used a new farrier than usual, so this was the result....not too happy with him, I've got to find somebody else that does minis nicely.

Matt, do you still think he needs a bit more toe(less heel)? They still look a little too "boxy" for my liking...

he is a cutie pie kris!

I have one other picture that I like a little better. His feet arn't that bad, he does just need a bit less heel. I really like this boy and I think he will only get better. I want to see him in 2 or 3 months. By July I think he will be a different horse!

I think Donovan will make a good stallion.

Thanks Kris!

I think the problem isn't necessarily needing more toe, it's needing less heel. Especially the front right in the last pix you posted. Many farriers tend to leave too much heel on minis. Even my hubby, who is a trained farrier (they only taught on big horses though) and has done my minis for over ten years will once in awhile leave too much heel. He always asks me what I think before he is totally finished and once in awhile I have to say he is just a tiny bit too upright yet. Don't be afraid to let your farrier know this and ask him/her to at least rasp those heels down a bit more. Also, that right front foot looks like he is toeing out ever so slightly from how the hoof is not evenly trimmed. Other than getting a farrier to do better with his feet, which is not fault on your boy whatsoever, I REALLY like him!
