Ok.....Jack has gone and done it now. HE is going through his terrible puppy stage. Mitzy never did this, and of coarse Jack couldnt do it where the previouse peoples dog started. He ate the carpet by the back door! :new_shocked: Not something I can hide when I move either. IM surely not gonna get a deposit back on this place. THats the only thing they have done so far, however there is stuff from the previous peoples dog that I didnt relize it was there when I filled in my move in form.

I'd say it's crate or X-pen time for Jack (when you're away or home but not able to watch him). When you're home and have time you can put a leash on him and keep him tethered to you. Wherever he is be sure he has something to play with. Whatever you do don't give him any opportunities to be bad unless you can be RIGHT THERE to react by redirecting him.

To Jack, with love: "Act like an 'idiot' and get treated like one."

Well there is good and bad in this. MOm is gonna come over tommorow and see what we can do. We are gonna try cutting out that area he chewed and cutting a patch out of the extra carpet and glue it down. The place she works for, people have done it when they move out and have gotten by on it.

The bad part. The carpet he chewed is where my door leaks so it is stained( I did report this on my move in sheet). IM not sure how Im gonna get the new chunk to match the old chunk? Maybe with it still leaking it will eventually match.

He has lots of toys, there is probably about 15 different things around the house, includeing chew toys. He just started his chewing. Mitzy when she chewed, at least it was my furniture......which I didnt like but at least it was my stuff she recked.

He did get punished and put in his crate for awhile after this.

He was only away from me a few mins.

Of coarse Like I said he couldnt of done it where the carpet was already comeing up.

I also sprayed some bitter end spray there until we see what we can do, and covered the area as best as I could.

Whoopsie!! Bad doggie! Understandable though, from a dog's point of view-- a puppy doesn't know what is and is not "off limits". With my Great Dane, I've always had LOTS of "chews" and toys in her toy box, and would give her new ones all the time, so she would chew those and not my furniture or walls (tho she did chew the walls in the laundry room as a puppy, as that was her "crate" and she got bored). She's been amazingly good otherwise, but some dogs are, and others think they can eat anything they like!

Do you know anyone who is able to do tile work or some such thing? If you do, you could possibly get permission from your landlord and replace the carpet by the door with a small area of tile or Pergo wood flooring for quite cheaply. It would look good and is a nice touch. If you can't do that, I guess your deposit is a goner, sigh... it doesn't help that there is previous damage from other tenants that you weren't aware of when you moved in either..

Russels are notorious for getting into trouble. They are "Terrorists." The majority are wired to want to chew, bark, dig, run, etc.. It's just their nature and it takes a diligent owner to keep redirecting them (and thus train them) before bad habits form. Jack isn't going to self-regulate his activities even with all the toys he has to choose from. As you learned it only takes a few minutes for him to do a lot of damage to your property. Even though he just started, Russels know what they consider fun and are strong willed. I'll again suggest either keeping him penned up or tethered to you when you cannot watch his every move or the next thing to go may be your computer wires.

ETA: I hope you can fix the carpet okay. I do like the other poster's idea of tile but wouldn't go with Pergo as it will warp if leaked on.

He is not allowed to go in the computer room unless I am in there. Neather of them are allowed in my bed room unless its to go to sleep.

Nope dont know anybody who can do that. Plus I dont think I can do that anyway as my back door goes out the side of my liveing room. Not sure why they didnt do that anyway when they built the place? Kinda hard to use the door unless it isnt rainning or snowing.

One of the things I found damage from the previous dog, my mom can replace when I leave. If you stand back from it, you can tell it has already been replaced at least once as it is a different color then the rest.

THey people before me didnt keep this place up at all. THey trashed it. Theres holes everywhere with very very bad fill jobs. Bent things, the garage looks like somebody smeered blood across the one wall. I wanna paint the that this summer as I cant stand looking at it. THe walls here are not done well as you try pounding a nail into it and it just chips away.

I am always trying to fix or have my mom fix the stuff I cant stand.

When I paided a deposit it was a double deposit for pets, of that they keep $400 for a dog. So the most I could get back is $950 which would be nice but I doubt I get any. I dont plan to move out of here until I can buy and build so in the long run it will pan out.

CAN YOU NOT MAKE HIM A WEE PEN WITH HIS BED IN IT, TO CRATE TRAIN A DOG THE CRATE IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE A HAVEN FOR THEM,NOT TO BE PUNISHED IN,BECAUSE THEN HE WONT GO INTO THE PEN IF HE ASSOSIATES IT WITH APUNISHMENT, IT VERY FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU FIRST GET A PUP,PROBABLY EVEN HARDER FOR YOU AS ITS NOT YOUR OWN HOUSE,BUT I WOULD GET HIM OR MAKE HIM A PEN,THAT YOU COULD PUT A REMNANT OF VINYLE DOWN ON INCASE OF ACCIDENTS, WHAT ABOUT ONE OF THOSE RUBBER BALL THINGS WITH A HOLE IN IT THAT WHEN THE DOG ROLLS IT FOOD COMES OUT, SORRY IM RAMBLING AGAIN LOL I HOPE YOU GET IT SORTED.....
