Yes, at one time candy was a penny! When the clerk saw us come in, he would get a paper bag out. You would not believe the amount of candy you could get into a paper sack for a quarter.

I will have to say my favorite was Root Beer Barrels!!!!! :aktion033: Also liked those taffy suckers that came in Banana, Vanilla, and chocalate!!

So what was yours?????

The peanut butter logs, white with brown stripes they were so good and Bit O Honey.

Rootbeer barrels and bit o honey are the only one's I can remember. But I absolutely remember my mom giving me a quarter and getting my paper bag, it took forever to go over the huge bins of candy.

What a great memory!!! Is there even any single candy you can buy for a quarter these days???!

That would be the candy cigerettes. Our store sold them in singles instead of the boxes. We thought we were so grown up to have them and they were so good being pure sugar.

Ahhh the Memories!!!! :bgrin

Mine were those little colored dots of candy on the paper strips, and the wax pop bottles filled with flavored juices, and the Candy Cigarettes too!!! Good memories!!!

Fire balls and lipstick candy. I think they were cherry flavor. To bad they don't make the lipstick ones today I really liked them they were soooo good.

Awww, this is a neat thread.

I also like the wax pop bottles with juice, and those huge suckers, they had a design on them like a horse shoe but with round bumps. If you got a specially marked one you got another one free.

Chocolate Ice Cubes too!

OMG! I had forgotten about those - YUM!!!!!! LOL!!! And the boxes of mini jawbreakers too! Candy Necklaces too!! Oh! This is a fun thread! :bgrin

Jawbreakers the really big ones that turned colors and when you got to the middle it had a hard sour centre.

And those yellow square sponge things forget what they were called but mmmmmmm had one walking home after school each day they were a nickle.

Boy, there sure are a lot of old farts on this thread! :bgrin Do you remember those big red wax lips they used to sell? I'm not quite in the penny candy group but I still remember being able to get 3 big candy bars for a quarter and nickle ice cream cones!

They were'nt a penny...but I remember the giant sweet tarts.....the wax lips and teeth you could get during Halloween time to play with and then you could eat them.

I DONT KNOW IF THE SWEETS WERE THE SAME IN AMERICA OR NOT BUT WE USED TO GET, REFRESHERS, GOLD RUSH, FOOTBALL CHUMS ,MOJOS,MIGET GEMS,AND DOES ANY ONE REMEMBER THE WEE GOLDFISH CUT OUT OF SEE THROUGH PAPER THAT USED TO CURL UP IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND??? OR THE SNAKE BALLOONS THAT WHEN YOU BLEW THEM UP THEY USED TO MAKE A NOISE AND FLY ALL OVER THE ROOM, :bgrin

Any and ALL! LOL Bit-o-honey still top my list ;) Wax bottles, fireballs and rootbeer barrels too. Our little farmers market sells all of them in 1 lb bags and my boys love those nasty wax bottles too LOL

YES!!!!!! :bgrin LOL!!!!! And I LOVED the giant Sweet Tarts too!!! Your tongue was raw for a week after finishing one of those!!! :bgrin

Those teeth and lips were Great!!! :bgrin

LOL..............my mother to this day still loves that awful Horehound candy.

I also remember talking in our empty glass pop bottles and turning them in for candy money.

This little paper bag sacks would really fill up with penny candy for just a few pop bottles laying around.

I love Bit-o-honey. When I find it, I still buy it. And yumm... Rootbeer barrels. Of course fireballs and jawbreakers top the list. Loved Bazooka Joes. Yep, had my share of wax bottles, candy necklaces, and wax lips. And I was also a pack a week user of the cigerette candies. Boy were we cool!

: And the cany dots. Humm... We used to pretend that they were pills and that they would effect us in certain ways (yep... sugar high was all we got from them!)

And smarties. Now there was a great penny candy! We would buy them and sort them by colors. Some colors were worth a lot more than others based on the total available. Then we would play poker with them and they were the betting chips. Winner eat all!

: What a life!

But.... One of my favorites of all times were the Horehound drops! I still love them and if I go to the Cracker Barrel here can still buy them in the white paper bag with the brown writing. May actually have to stop on my way home and get some.
