From a narrative's viewpoint

As long as it's well-done, either is fine.

I did read one ebook, poorly edited if at all, in which the author switched back and forth -- and this was not a matter of style or experimental writing.

One of my biggest complaints about self-published ebooks is the lack of editing. One book had several misspelled words per paragraph, glaring grammatical errors throughout, andquotes and dialogue so poorly used that I had to guess as to who was saying what.

I probably prefer 1st person, but if it's a good book, I like either.

On a similar note, when I read Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta books, I read them back to back. I had heard the voice would change part way though the series from Kay's perspective to that of other characters and I remember worrying that would ruin the books for me, but of course, it didn't! And I liked it when she switched back to Kay's perspective in the more recent books, too

There was one very popular book I tried but could NOT get into it and I think part of it was the narrative voice. I can't say it's not well written as it is so popular, but I couldn't enjoy it (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West). I couldn't relate to the strangeness of the characters (as in not human) and the way they were observed from the perspective of the narrator. I may give it another shot one day, but just couldn't get into it and that rarely happens to me (I like most books).

I like either, but I think first person is harder to do well than third. It's pretty limiting to have to stick with one point of view for the whole story.

Really, so long as they stick with their point of view character, I'm good with it. I can't stand frequent POV changes - (coughcoughNoraRobertscoughcough) - makes it so difficult to really get invested in the story. Headhopping makes me dizzy!

I think I prefer 3rd person, although I have enjoyed some 1st person stories. I think I feel more connected when I'm reading about someone else's life rather then feeling like I'm in the person's head.
