What is your favorite fairy tale? It doesn't have to be a book.

My favorite is a newer one called Penelope. I'm going through a phase right now where I'm reading a lot of magical books with good morals. I'm starting Nanny Mcphee right now.

Anyone else know of any good fairy tale type books (with happy endings)? Anyone else going through a phase?

Amish phase. I can't get enough about the Amish. I think they are amazing and love the "simple" life. Told hubby if something were to happen to him and our son (Heaven Forbid!!!) I would move to an Amish community. I am reading fiction and non-fiction about the Amish right now. I have so much respect for them and anyone who still uses horse drawn vehicles to get from point A to point B is a hero in my book!

I love Robin McKinleys retelling of fairy tales, she did two on beauty and the beast which is my favorite so always looking for "new" versions of that one. They are called Beauty and Rose Daughter. She did another one based in sleeping beauty, but I forget the title.

Entwined -twist on the 12 Dancing Princesses (where they wear out their shoes every night). Forgot the title

I want to read Nanny McPhee, but I haven't yet. I work as a nanny, so I have a special interest, LOL. I've read one or two of the Mary Poppins books (they are very different from the movie).

I can't remember who wrote it, but have you read Beastly? It's a modern Beauty and the Beast tale. I think you'd like Penelope too (female character is the 'beast'). I know the woman who wrote Beastly did some other fairy tales too, but I haven't read those ones.

The Nanny McPhee book I'm reading is a collection of Nurse Matilda books that the movies were adapted from. I didn't know that when I bought it. There is a more recent Nanny McPhee book that is made from the movies, and the neat thing is that Emma Thompson (who played Nanny McPhee) wrote the book. I had no idea she is an author.

The original Mary Poppins are quite entertaining! I wonder why Disney didn't follow them more closely? He said he found his nieces giggling over the books and that intrigued him to make a movie.

I have read Beastly and a few of the authors other fairtytale based books. They aren't as good as Robin McKinleys, but they are an easy fun read. I will have to look up Penelope, it sounds like one I would like! I did see the one written by Emma Thompson, I thought it was interesting she wrote the book too.

I love reading Amish books as well. Some are better and more believable than others. If I won the lottery I would love to move to Lancaster and live near them. My mom takes senior trips to Amish country every year and loves to visit with them and eat in their homes. I don't like the Amish Mafia, though. Amish quilts patterns are my favorite.
