Last week I got 50 bales of straw @ $2.00 a bale and today he brought me a load of the most beautiful grass hay you ever saw @ $1.75 a bale.

He charges me $15.00 for delivery, which is really cheap. My horses are going to love it. Will bring another 50 bales tomorrow, then asked me if I was sure that's all I need. I told him money was an issue. He told me get all I want and pay him whenever. What a sweetheart he is. He said he is trying to get all his wagons unloaded. I said bring all you think I have room for. So I got a deal I think. No work on my part. My hay comes out to about $2.00 a bale delivered and straw $2.25 a bale. So I feel like I'm finally getting ready for the winter. And I am not working so I have no excuse for waiting so long. Having too much fun playing with my horses and new donkeys, I guess. So we should be all snuggly and well fed this winter. Yeah!!!! They are doing their part by putting on their new winter woolies. Sure are getting fuzzy.

Sounds like your are all ready for winter. I was at a horse sale in Cannon Falls, MN and they had a hay sale and small squares went for 6 bucks a bale. I think you did alright!

Wish I could have gotten hay for that price. We had hay hauled in to Kentucky last week from Mississippi. We had to pay 5.50 a bale, but we are all set for the winter. It is nice hay. We were down to about ten bales in the barn. I was getting very stressed out about it. Feeling a lot better now.

We were set to purchase the rest of the hay that we needed for the winter until....I heard yesterday that the barn that had a few THOUSAND bales in it....burned down..

You are very lucky to get hay for that price

We've paid $5.50 - $6.50 this year and have just finished getting enough, I think, to take us through May. LOVE that feeling

OK, You all need to count your blessing that you can even get hay for $6 a bale!

Get this, I recently paid $30 a bale for lucerne/alphalfa and $24 a bale for grass hay. That's typical here in Australia where I live.

I am getting some bales for around $12 a bale shortly, buying it sight unseen though. Last time I did that, the quality was poor but I have to take a chance.

I can't afford to have more than 2 horses!

I get really nice grass hay for I think about $5 a bale. But I can only store 5-6 bales max.

Yes there is nothing like the feeling of having a barn full of hay!!

We've been getting our hay for $1.75 which is a grass/alfalfa hay mix for quite some time but the hay man is bumping it up to $3 over winter like usual, will be back to $1.75 next season. I'm getting 116 bales which will last me about 4 months and then i have abother 35 bales still in the barn so i have enough to get me to April

You can't beat that price and service!

I only have 65 put up and need about 100 more. We had our pasture all cut and baled and then it rained before we were able to get it up in the barn-lost about 100 bales.

Ain't it a great feeling?

I got my winter hay back in July but I'd like to go back pretty soon and get another 50 or so just in case. My hay shed smells so darn good.

Wow, Maplegum, I thought we had it bad, I payed 10.50 a bale for T/A this last load we got a few weeks ago. Kathy in Fl

I know the feeling just picked up my kicker wagon full (200 bales) of 3rd cutting grass hay last Sunday. I was sweating as my hay man for over 25 years was worried he wasn't going to have enough even for his own cows, that has NEVER happened before....It turns out the LORD was with us, this hay is the best I've ever had. I purchased 2 additional pickup loads (80 bales) that I'll go get this weekend just in case. I paid 2.50 they average about 65-70lbs each.

For a horse owner a barn full of NICE hay is pure contentment. We can sit back and say bring on WINTER.

Count your Blessings!!! I'm in Fl and feed hay year round and I'm down to the tale end of my last load and I've been shopping around. T&A in this area ranges from $12-$17 per bale (approx 70 lbs). I can find it for $8 but its so stalky its not worth my time. Alfalfa is running $15.00. I can buy coastal locally for $5 but I won't feed it.

Shoot, we can't even get straw. I was in the feed store yesterday and saw two bales sitting on display. I was shocked as they normally don't have much. Even more shocked to find out it was higher than the hay.

I'm putting out a 600 lb bale of alfalfa for my Qh's and still scouting for the minis. If anyone knows of any decent, AFFORDABLE hay in Fl. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Candice

We got ours about a month ago. We were lucky to find it at $3 a bale. Pure grass hay, we wanted that as we have some of the large squares that are pure alfalfa and needed something to help offset it.

The guy we got it from wasnt going to make squares anymore after this year, but he is going to next year for us! We can get grass/alfalfa mix which is what I am getting next year.

I only have 1 horse that gets all alfalfa, 2 that get a good strong alfalfa mix and the rest either all grass, or very little alfalfa so I dont need it straight.

That said, I have enough hay to get to next fall. We feed year round. Mom didnt want to fill the area where we keep the hay, but I said to. I like being safe then sorry.

We grow our own hay but every year buy 500 extra square bails. We pay $2 a bale.

We were alittle worried, the man where we were getting it from didn't have a good crop this last summer so in Sept. he said by Oct. we would have to find hay some where else, we looked all over in the area and couldn't find any, my hubby asked the mail man if he knew of anyone that had any around here, He said he did, he lives about a mile from us, we don't have a place to put alot of hay for all the horses so he said we could just go there when we need it, he has alfalfa hay and grass hay, were getting alfalfa now at 2.25 a bail and the grass hay when we get it will be 2.00 a bail. We would like to buy a couple big round bails for the big horse though for a while its easier.

[SIZE=12pt] it always feels so good to get all the hay in, we have about 1600 up, waaay more then we need, hubby was calculating like we still had all of our horses and donkies here. I won't complain though, nice to know we won't run out

If you have a little extra, you can always sell some if you want to. Better to be long than short.

We put up most of our own hay, mostly round bales for the cows; but my FIL put up 200 small squares of grass for me off our hay field and I bought 45 small squares to stay on my hay guys list. I can get more small squares from my FIL if I need them, but his are stored outside, exposed, so only get them if I'm desperate.

Edited to add: I paid $2.75/bale for the grass I bought (up from $2.25/bale last year), roughly 70# bales.

This is SO true!

We are now lucky enough to be able to raise our own hay on our own property, so we can produce exactly what we want. We got about 1200 bales of hay this year, and it's so nice not to have to fret and worry and wonder where and when we will be able to find hay, and for how much.

Connie, that's awful about the hay burning up-- what are you going to do???

At that price you got it for a steal with delivery and all.

I paid $5.00 a bale for good hay delivered and stacked in the hay shed and have all I need I think.
