Back in December, Gracie developed a sinus infection that would not clear up, and then developed a large hard swelling on the side of her face. Took her to Somis hospital, where they did a biopsy and found that she had advanced squamous cell carcinoma - cancer - in her sinus cavity. It had started eating away at the bone and tissue.
I did all I could to keep her happy and comfortable, but the cancer finally won it's battle. It eroded the tissue and bone on the side of her face, leaving behind more and more damage - literally, large holes in her face and head. This last week it got worse, and I had to make the toughest decision - I needed to let my best friend go.
The last couple days she laid in the sunshine, soaking in the warmth. She even got to eat her favorites snacks- Grammy Bears.
My vet humanely assisted her across the rainbow bridge today and she went calmly and peacefully. She was only 14 years old, the last of my Just bloodlines...full sister to my Cody and daughter of my Misty (many of you remember them both).
Godspeed Gracie, Godspeed my friend...
