I was so disappointed that no one asked me about my husbands cause on the Forum topic. Even though it is not horse related, I feel we have to keep involved with our partners interests if we expect them to put up with ours.

So here it is, and I do think he's come up with a winner this time. You see he has always wanted to get a bill introduced to the State Legislation. Me too for that matter. But we haven't had much luck yet.

Well, Hart (Vietnam Vet) feels that any Veteran that hits 95 years of age or over should not have to pay taxes on their cigarettes. He says it would kind of give them something to hang on for. Now most of them can't afford them.

The bill I would like to see introduced is -All lines on North Dakota roads should be painted yellow instead of white. White in ND just doesn't make sense. I know that yellow costs more than white, but gee we have got so much oil money and most of us are old and can't see those white lines in the winter.

YES!!! I have been saying it for years. It really doesn't make sense at all. Last year, when we had 80+ inches of snow, I had to drive 45 min one way to get to work and driving back at night with the wind and snow made it almost impossible to drive anywhere, even on the interstate. I drove about 40mph most days and usually the lines were nowhere to be seen. On bad days I would turn on my emergency blinkers to get the yellow light so I could see something (anything) that wasn't white. I can't tell you how many cars and trucks I saw in the ditches or how many times I saw search and rescue trying to dig out a car in the ditch with just a bit of the roof showing. Maybe in other parts of ND the white lines work, but here in the red river valley where there are no trees, no hills, and crazy winds, we need yellow.

Thank you for sharing LaVern and good luck to your husband!

Your husband has a fantastic idea with the cigarette tax break. As far as I''m concerned, vets should receive many more breaks, but this is a good start.

As far as the road striping, Oregon (and Washington, I think) has yellow lines to divide the different directions of traffic and only uses white to divide lanes going in the same direction. Since it is being done already in some states, a precedent has been set, which should improve your chances.

I don't remember seeing your previous post about your husband's plans, but I'm with you on supporting our significant others' efforts. Keith and I consider ourselves each other's enablers, die-hard supporters no matter what the cause.

Hey

I want to move up there and get one of those great paying ND jobs. Can you find me a place to stay? LOL

Hope you get your bill passed.

Hey Renee, my husband also served in Viet Nam, can your hubby make an amendment that vets shouldn't have to pay taxes on cigarettes or beer after age 65?

I don't know if you remember us from Nationals the year you guys did Johnny Cash, but we were stalled next to Jean and I'm the one that you thought looked Native American, and I said yes I'm Cherokee. Well we all had some beers and cigs and had a great conversation. I'll never forget you!

Lol, kaykay, there are not many great paying jobs up here, there are just plenty of jobs available for those that want them that are 'decent' paying and cost of living is MUCH nicer than other states. I always complain about our weather, but I don't think i'd ever move. We have the lowest unemployment rate in the US, an excellent education system, tons of space, and lots of "North Dakota Nice". I'll keep the cold if I can keep the rest of it too
