Nope we have at least 3 more months of winter here on the high plains of Wyoming!

I usually start breeding in June and go through August or September. I have lots of 10 month mares, and when the foals come in April with snow still on the ground I remember that I am nuts! haha

My favorite time for them to be born is July. The nights are still cold, usually in the 40's, but the days are perfect!!! And I often have mares that foal out on the grass in July :) That is the perfect foaling scenario here! But I don't like them to all come at once, so that is why I don't breed for ALL July foals!

We are :aktion033: But we have mild winters and I have a nice barn. :bgrin I don't have any coming this year but hopefully 2 for 07.

I am already breeding....three mares have cycled so far, out of 7.

I don't mind January babies.....it gives me something to do when the winter doldrums set in.

Of course, we have a fully enclosed barn. :bgrin

Last year, my old boy, Trouble, was only able to get one mare in foal..

: ...so I've given him two young mares and a head start on settling them.....if in fact he is unable to impregnate them.

...I've still got enough time to let the required 42 days lapse and use a different stallion.

No Way, Jose..I won't start breeding here until May 1st. Even then if you have a mare only go 300 days your looking at a Feb.24 foal date...Still too early in my book here in East Tennessee..I spent 8 years doing early breedings and I refuse to do it anymore..running back and forth in the freezing cold even with the breeder alert and cameras..brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I'm going to start teasing March 1st. It stays pretty decent down here in winter, so we'll be OK. Plus, come the spring months we go away too often for shows!

Yep - Appy and Dotto have each had 2 girls each

: , and Cat will get bred back on her foal heat. We're in Southern California, so it really doesn't make much difference!

Waiting to see who's pregnant or not, though. They could still be getting ready to do their REAL cycling!

Even though it's been unusually warm this winter, no way are there going to be any winter foals here. March is the earliest. However, if my mare that I plan to show this year isn't bred, I may have her bred for a Febuary foal, so next years baby can be weaned before it's show time in June. I need to get my vet to come do an ultrasound on her asap as she is one of those ladies that hides her foal until the last 2 months before foaling.

Up here in Northern Ontario I prefer my foals in April. Any sooner the ground vis still covered with snow and it can get cold at nights. The ice doesn't go off the big lakes until the first week in May.
