I am director of a rural hospital's surgery department and we do lap band.

You're going to be really pleased!

Many of my friends have had bariatric surgeries with success. I must say that one of them completely changed her personality for the worst, to a catty, man-prowling, condescending, manipulator with zero morals. Needless to say, we are sadly no longer friends. Just stay the same you, in a smaller and happier package.

Did you get your insurance to approve the surgery?

You may want to put yourself on TWO multivitamins per day, and B Complex, and colloidal minerals starting now,....in anticipation of the metabolic disturbance you will soon experience. It will benefit you greatly.

Yes my insurance has approved and they will pay 80% of the surgery. I have waited so long for this and now I finally get to do it........

Sounds like your friend turned for the worst I'd say........but I plan on staying the same old me just in a smaller package like you said.........thanks for the input on the vitamins.

The Dr that is doing my surgery is one fo the top ten surgeons in the country that teaches this procefure so I feel very confident about him..........

Thanks for the info..........

I want to have that done, but so far I am just to big of a chicken.

I'm assuming it is simaliar to stomach stapleing, Laurlee or TinyMiteVillage?

Good luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

It is a soft plastic adjustable band placed around the upper portion of the stomach. The inner part of the band has a saline-filled cuff that is connected to a small accessible port (like a portacath or a mediport). The band creates a pouch that only holds about 2 ounces. Therefore, when you eat, your stomach sends a signal to your brain that says "I'm full".

Over time, the cuff can be adjusted tighter or looser, depending on what you need, by instilling more saline through the port.

These are put in through a laparoscope and you end up with 5 small incisions.

The weight loss is slower than gastric bypass, but you don't end up with dumping syndrome and the severe metabolic (mineral deficiencies) disturbances of gastric bypass, because the vitamin/mineral absorptive areas of your stomach are not BYPASSED therefore they can still absorb nutrients.

For more information, go to the INAMED website. They are the only company that makes adjustable lap bands, and they also can provide financing to clients.

Couldn't have said it better myself.......Thanks for explaining that tot hem....I am so excited to be having it done and it is alot less invasive and alot less drastic then the gastric bypass also......

Only 21 more days...............lol

I had gastric bypass in 1975, kept it for nearly 4 yrs ..old days, not good. COMPLETELY different from what you're having and that's as Martha says a good thing

Mine didn't go well, and I had it reversed, so have looked into LapBand many times as it's very impressive with the results I've seen and boy do I need it, but guess what? They won't do it so far at the places I've asked if one is over 60 yrs old!

So do I die of fat instead? BUT this is about you and it's wonderful, exciting and I know you will do great! MY niece did and she's so beautiful and healthy now and raising a wonderful family now. My Prayers to you and will be watching for those wonderful updates:) Maxine

WOW --- sounds exciting --- please keep us posted as to how the surgery goes -- and with your progress as its result!!

Happy New YOU!

I know I for one am quite motivated by the Real TV show "The Biggest Loser" -- I am not into Reality TV -- but these people are really fantastic! I am soooo very impressed with their will to change their lives -- the Season Finale around Thanksgiving was fabulous! Where you got to see everyone again -- even those that left the program early. I was impressed that just about EVERYONE had continued with the weight loss, diet and exercise and the metamorphesis (sp?) of their lives was incredible!!!

So -- hang in there and keep us posted please!

I would check in with my doctor here in North Georgia. I know of several people that have been in their 60's and have had it done. Might be worth it to check it out.

Here is the website
