Ok. I have this mare that I am breeding my stallion to. He has bred her once and I went to breed her again tonight. After he got done I noticed that she was bleeding. Its not like shes bleeding like he tore her but she is bleeding from inside. Has anyone had this problem before. What should I do? What happened? I am unsure if she has ever had a baby so this could be the first time shes ever been bred? Are they like human women and have a hymen that can tare?

Please help me out here

Thanks,

Alisha

Alisha,

Yes they are just like human woman and do have a hymen. I would not worry too much unless it is a great deal of blood. When you breed her again just check and see if she is still bleeding.

If she has not been bred before it could be the hymen being opened. It should stop bleeding. If not I'd have a vet check her but I've seen this often with young mares.

Thanks, She has stopped bleeding and it was not a whole lot but enough that I got scared. Would I be able to breed her again tomarrow or should a wait? I dont think she got a good breeding today.

Alisha,

Go ahead and breed her it should not be a problem at all. Just sounds like a typical maiden mare being exposed to a stallion for the first time. Good luck and hopefully she will catch.

Blood and breeding is a problem. I would call the vet. If blood gets inside they will not settle, or will slip later, she will not carry that foal. I have had it happen in an older proven mare as well.

PLEASE talk to a vet to be on the safe side. It would be one thing if you KNEW this was her first time, but you have said you aren't sure.
