FIRST and foremost thank you thank you for all the votes for Carl and little SHorcake.

: Came in third after a fast and furious vote. What fun and wasn't that a beautiful Buckskin horse that came in second? Drool drool :bgrin You know my love of Buckskins.

Carl was delighted and surprised this morning and moved that you all would take the trouble to go vote on a busy weekend day, so thanks a lot.

Now this problem with their coats. We've got horses that have nice stalls available at all times open to them. That's where their water is in their heated tubs. They also have a run in shed outside with hay and we give them a choice to be out or in as we feel it's healthier.

They come in for water and their Safe Choice etc twice a day but otherwise unless Carl is out there they seem to stay out.I searched here but nothing came up so posting this.

The came in yesterday with icycles hanging on them, their underbelly, and can't seem to get them off unless we cut them off at the loss of some coat! We don't want to use a hairdryer and heat them up causing "steam", any suggestions? OK to go ahead and cut them out and lose a little Winter coat there?Would it grow back fast? Help!

Hmmm... if they aren't melting that means that no heat is escaping from the horse, so that's good! I would think a metal curry comb or shedding blade would knock them off? I've had mine get icicles on their whiskers, and just rubbed them off, but haven't had them on their tummies yet.

Think spring!!!

: Only, what? 42 days away?

Maxine, if they are full of mud ..like most of mine are...it is going to take a LONG time for them to melt. I have used my hands to warm them before, but that is a real messy job. Maybe a warm, wet sponge if it is above freezing. We can just hope that Spring will come soon. Mine have ice/mud in chunks in their feathering after our weekend storm that was a downpour changing over to blizzard.. what a mess!

We live where that is pretty common and if we want to take them of for whatever reason we get a bucket of very warm water and a towel and hold it on the spot you want melted works for us and it's fast and better then cutting. l hate when there eyes are all iced up and they can't see poor things so just hold the warm towel on there for a few minutes till it's melted. :bgrin

First Maxine I did vote for Carl and Shortcake! That is so sweet a pic. I had this happen only once before and I just quick grabbed a bot knife and they came right off. Hope you figure it out. It's always something with the kids EH?

Carl got them of with Luna the Lab's anti shedding grooming comb..yeah! Thanks for all the hints .
