I'm with Ruffian -- wet it! They will still try but, it is harder to make it work.

One of my mini mares does this in the big 10' trough! I just want to shoot her over it -- now her son does it!!!!!!!

But, I found by accident after a rain, that wetting it sure helped keep it from easily being slapped around. She tries, just harder to do. In a stall this is easier than a trough where others feed along.

I quit trying to solve it and just put a tub on the ground for them. IT's about 8" high and I no longer have the feed going on the ground. I have one boy that moves his tub around the floor when he eats, but he doesn't make any deposits to the ground.

Others, I started out with the square feeders, when they were weanlings. If they started tossing the bucket and feed, I tied the middle of the feeder over the railing and they quit.
