He eats can food, because of his teeth. He is the sweetest dog ever. Our vet started him on IV fluids this morning to help him.The vet said by looking at his eyes he still have the will to live. We told the vet as long as Havic has the will to live give him that chance. My daughter Ashley who is 13 yrs old loves this dog, he has been here her whole life. I would hate to loss him after all we have been thur so far this year. The vet said his white blood count is high. The vet is testing other stuff as well. Havic will have to stay all night tonigh, he as never been away from home.

The vet said at this age it could be a number of things. We don't understand he was doing so good, but over night he went down hill.If you all please pray for HAVIC.If it is the Lord will we understand, but it is so hard to let go.Havic has the biggest heart. He loves people and children. You couldn't ask for a better dog.Havic is on HEARTGARD PLUS montly, so he will not get heartworms.Havic is the oldest dog we have ever had. When you have a pet this many years it is very very hard to let them go.We have had him since he wasa 6 weeks old. A very long time.

here is a photo of HAVIC.

I'm so sorry to hear this. ((hugs))

Just 5 months ago, we had to have our 17 year old cat, whom we had since she was a baby, put to sleep. It was one of the most difficult things that we had ever had to do.

When the time comes..you will know in your heart as much as it hurts, that it is just the right thing to do for them...

It takes time for the pain to ease but you will look soon back and smile when you think of all the fond memories that you had and think of the special love that you shared.

It will get easier. My thoughts are with you.

My heart feels your pain. We are praying for Havic. We have cried so much today, we are cried out. It is so hard to even talk about him maybe have to be put to sleep(My heart breaks for him).We will treat him until Havic tells us he has had enough. He is so sweet. He is the first one to come up to you. Loves to be petted. We had about 8 yrs old two litters of puppies by him, but sold all the puppies now we wish we would have kept one. This is my Husband's Dog. You know they said men don't cry, sorry to say but when you have a family member in pain(yes they do). Please pray for my husband as well, he is so heart broken over Havic.

15-1/2 is very old, it's a credit to you that Havic has had such a long life.

It sounds like it has been a very good one, and he has been very loved.

My beloved Trulee graced us by just going to sleep in a dog bed and not

waking up at just shy of 15 years old on Dec. 2. While I still grieve

for her every day, we were not forced to make any hard decisions.

At this age, every single day is a gift to be appreciated and enjoyed.

Love him, spoil him, and when he tells you it's time, let him go.

You will know.

HUGS,

Shelley

our vet said being at the hospital is best for him.

So sorry about Havic...

I had to out our 14 yr old down last yr and it was the hardest thing EVER!

But I will say he had lost the light in his eyes and he couldnt get up, his hips went out and he couldnt stand up and wouldnt cause he was in so much pain.

I knew 14 yrs was a nice life for a big dog so I let him go... When I looked in his eyes, he was pleading with me to let him go to a painfree place... I had to do it and make him comfortable...

Good luck with Havic, whatever happens, my heart is with you...

After being in veterinary medicine for 10 years, I have held a lot of hands and wiped a lot of tears over beloved furry friends. And the biggest men do cry the hardest.

But in my experience, letting go of these friends has never been a mistake. You see, our animals have it so much better than us. Their every need is met by us and in return, they give us love. Unconditional love. But, in return for that unconditional love, it is our duty to make their passing (when the time comes) to be as painless and the most digintified as possible. I have helped friends deal with this descision as well as had to make the descision (and performed the act) myself. It is the most UNSELFISH act you can perform. To give them a way to the other side with as little pain and suffering as possible.

He will always be with you and will patiently wait for all of you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Please, even though the thought of being without Havic is excruciating, put his quality of life over his quanity.

We can only hope that one day, we can make the same descision for ourselves.

We just spoke to the vet still not change

, but the vet said let see how he does over night.

Melissa Sending hugs to you and your family at this difficult time, it is never an easy decision to make, my heart feels for you. I know you will do the nest thing for Havic.

Melissa, It's never easy to say "so long" to an old fur friend after so many years........As I and others have said before, watch his face, particularly his eyes. Listen to your heart (and your gut). Everything will "tell" you when to say "good bye". Although, it's not a forever good bye.........don't forget that. And I truly believe that our special fur friends KNOW that.

Oh dear... Hugs to you and your family.

I will tell you this much. Don't be afraid that Havic will pass without knowing you love him. HE ALREADY KNOWS how much you love him!!! I am 1000% sure of this!!!!! I am also very very sure that he has appreciated being with you for all this time and you have been rewarded for your faithfulness to him and your wonderful care of him by his longevity. 15.5 years is a long time for a large breed of dog.

At his age, and being so ill, Havic is in the best hands possible being at the vet, so don't be afraid of him passing. Again, he knows you love him and he knows he is there to get help. I will say a prayer for Havic and one for your family to have strength in this difficult situation.

Oh, and your vet and you will know when he is ready. Trust the eyes....

I spoke to the vet this morning still no change on Havic.

The vet wants to give him another day before we decide to put him down. The vet has the change him from side to side, because he is so weak

.I am so sad and heart broken, but it is not looking good for Havic. We are calling the vet back at lunch to check on Havic. My daughter Ashley does not want us to put him to sleep, but if he does not do well we will have no choice.

I am so sorry to hear that there hasn't been any improvement. Thoughts & prayers being sent that he will improve after another day.

I am very sorry about your loved one, family member, friend, best buddy. I know what you are going thru, we had to put 2 dogs down because of their age in the past year. I do not know if it is possible, but we had our vet come out to our place to put them asleep and then we were able to be at home and have privacy during this moment and able to bury them and say good bye at our home and not in a vet clinic. It is a time to cry, hurt, scream, what ever it takes; then it is time to say goodbye, it is very hard, I will not lie, but do not be selfish when your loved one is in pain and cannot function 100%. They will love you more at the end when you take the pain away. I know what you are going thru and I think it is just a test or stage in life we all have to go thru, because if we do not, then we are not human. Hang in there.

SOOOO well said!!!

i'm so sorry you are going through this awful time. been down this road more times than i cared to but my vet told me, each time, this was the last act of love i could show for my best buddies. be it dog, horse or goat, it was never easy but i was so glad i could make their passing painless and comfortable.

bless you for giving Havic such a wonderful life.

My husband just when to check on Havic at the vet's office. The vet said he still was not eating or sitting up for them. My husband got him to eat and sit up for him.My husband said Havic was so happy to see him.My husband said he wanted to come home.My husband said he still has the will to live in his eyes.We will keep up with meds and iv fluids.Pray HAVIC gets better or we will know when the time is to let him go.
