I think it's pretty cool to have you farm name with a horse. It really stands out at a show when you keep hearing one farm name announced over and over! Whereas if you have a hodge-podge of farm names, you could be doing just as well- but you're not getting that awesome advertising!

That being said, our stallion carries our farm name, ShoeBox Stables Victorio Hawk

He's not a homebred, but we bought him when he was young, before he was registered. However, I quite LOVE his breeding!

And our 06 gelding as well, ShoeBox Stables Jolly Roger

He's our first and only homebred

Now I've never shown them at the same time- but hopefully this year I can!!!

I just sold my breeding stallion C Spots Justin Falabella. I am keeping his son- C Spots Justins Fortunate Son (a snow cap appy).

My mares with C Spots are:

C Spots Calista Falabella

C Spots Salvos Import Saga

My other colt is C Spots Calypso Falabella

And though I didn't breed or foal her out here I owned her parents-

I'm still waiting for the right filly to keep, I always think "maybe next year" but the right one hasn't come along yet. I do have one mare with my prefix, not my breeding, but I had her hardshipped into AMHR because she was unregistered.

I want to keep girls, being a small farm it would be hard to keep a colt, because he would always be too closely related, but from an outside breeding it might work. I don't have a problem with promoting another farm/bloodline if they are an honest one.

One of my stallions is of my own breeding; All three of my geldings are of my own breeding, and two of those have been shown and both have Hall of Fames, National Top Tens, and one has a National Championship and a Reserve Championship. It really is awesome to breed a horse, raise it, train it, and show it, and do well.

All but six of my 22 mares and fillies are of my own breeding. Over the years I've sold many of the mares that I started out with, but kept a filly or two from them that were better than the mares. I still buy mares, here and there, that I think will contribute nicely to my breeding program. I've bred to a lot of outside stallions even though most of the time I owned my own, to get some varied bloodlines from some very nice horses.

Next year two of the horses I plan to show don't have my prefix, but I'm still very excited to be showing them.

If I have a homozygeous colt this year from Dazzle's breeding I will keep him, provided he's tiny.

I will have two chances from pinto mares he has bred.

It would be nice to have our name on the herd sire

Also our Ellie is homozygeous but won't be bred till 2008 for a 2009 baby.

9 of our 27 horses have our prefix and I agree that it makes you feel pretty good when the name is announced. (all mares and fillies)

We have one son from our stallion "Alamos Locomotions Bay Escapade" that we've retained and have been using......but we haven't promoted him yet.

Then, we have sons from our other mini stallion, "Sooner State Raider Light" that we keep trying to retain because Raider is 20 years old now.....but people keep buying each one we really like! Raider is one of those older fellows that was "before his time" in TYPE. And personality? Wow.

I have 2 with our prefix -- one is my stallion and he wasnt named when I bought him -- they previous owner had never sent in his papers and didnt have a name picked for him so we named him and then we bought a mare with her colt at side this summer and he wasnt named either so we got to name him with our farm prefix as well... I hope to add a few fillies in the next couple years with our prefix -- hopefully ones that we have raised

None of the horses we have raised are being used for breeding, just because they were bred for the purpose of showing and driving. Now that we have the horses we want, we are pretty much done with the breeding. Our show horses, though, will all have our prefix on them--I do like showing horses of our own breeding as opposed to buying horses to show. It's much more fun to win with a horse that has our farm name on it.

I do plan on showing 2 young stallions (both homebreds) next summer, and one of them would probably be tried as a breeding stallion in future if we were still breeding. Since we are not, he will be gelded after show season.

I did buy a colt last fall and we may show him along with our homebreds next summer, depending on how he looks once the winter fuzzies come off--he will be the only exception to our rule of showing only our homebreds.

We've shown our own name since about 1984 then in 2002 we upgraded and added new outside blood and have shown a few different farm names besides our own from 2004 to 2007..of the herd of around 40 only 8 are not our own breeding 6 of which were new stallions to cross with our name mares and 2 new mares to cross with our name stallions...

I don't think the name is as important as the quality of the horse.

I personally am proud to own a quality horse no matter what prefix is on the name.

I would also buy a horse from an unknown farm if the horse fit my criteria for a sound breeding animal that would improve my breeding line up.

I certainly love to see a pedigree with my prefix as sire and dam, especially if the foal is a great one as it shows I achieved my breeding goal.

>>j OOPS! *blushing with embarrassment!* LOL! Guess I got confused with our sharing the same or similiar bloodlines- LOL! Colors and Justin being same dam threw me off

** correction ** I got this super filly that is related to my stallion Justin that I traded Kim the filly for a broodmare of mine and she was kind enough to let me add my C Spots to her name
