Over the summer, i babysat some for the nabors. It was summer and i didnt know how much to charge. I babysat from 7am-4pm (4 days-6 days per week normally) and i just charged 20 dollars a day. The girl is 3yrs old.

Well they called just now and want me to babysit tonight 7pm-1pm. Should i charge more since its New Year's tonight. I had plans to have a friend or two over, but then they called. I have not babysat since back in July though.

What do you normally change/pay for babysitting?

..its one 3yr old kid.

Would you charge more for tonight?

$5.00 - $10.00 is the normal rate for babysitting per hour here. I would be tempted to go in between that say. $7.50 - $10.00 for tonight since it is a holiday and you will be out so late. or will you just be staying there all night? I would be willing to pay that to have a special nite out on the town with no kids. I know what a handful 3 year olds are..

so i would also be willing to pay extra for that. also is the child potty trained? or still in pull-ups/diapers?? theres alot to take into consideration the more work you have to do the more you should get paid. have fun but most importantly be careful if your out and about too late tonight.

We'll they called and said that they got her aunt to babysitt for them since i already had plans.

But they do want me to start babysitting Sundays 1pm-6pm.

I will probaly start asking for $5 an hour.

Thanks for replies

i babysit every now and then for my moms friend from work. they give me $5 an hour, sometimes the kids would act up and they would tip me. in general you are not going to get much more then $5 a hour, on a regular day.

Wow, $5 dollars an hr would be very nice to get, this past summer I babysat a 5 month old little girl for 12 hrs 5 days and got 50.00 for that WHOLE time Lol but 5.00 does sound very good to me.

My babysitter charges me $35 a day for my three kiddos. Only $25 a day when she has the younger two. Usually my oldest is in pre-school during the week from 8am-2pm. She usually keeps them 3-4 times a week depending on my work schedule. I think asking for $5-6 an hours is reasonable.

According to the law babysitters are supposed to get minimum wage...but not everyone goes by that. It always will depend on the amount of children there are, how well behaved they are and if the babysitter will need to stay early, later, overnight.

Around here if you pay anyone anything less than $5.00 per hour you're considered a very poor payer and nobody will babysitt unless absolutely needed. Our minimum wage here is $8.00 per hour and most people get that or $10.00 an hour...again it depends on the situation.

I still do some babysitting on the side of my dayjob, and I charge $8 for one child, $10 for two and $5 for each additional per hour.

We have three kids and ages 3, 7 & 9. For just the 3yo we pay $5/hr and $10/hr for all three. I am frequently told that they don't have to "watch" the older one because he takes care of himself. True, but he is still too young to stay home alone in my book.

Most daycare providers in my area are charging a minimum of $25/day per child with a reduced price for siblings. We don't pay a per day amount so if we are gone for 10 hours then they get $100. We don't seem to have trouble getting a babysitter when we need one.

I pay $7 at night, I have 3 kids. The kids would be fed and ready for bed if nto already in bed.

During the day I would pay a bit more up to $10 per hour because my kids are awake!!

I expect my babysitter to care for my children and interact with them and NOT blonk them in front of the TV! To me a good babysit is well worht what I pay them. It is hard work taking care of kids, if it is done right!!

Around here a babysitter would not do New Years for less than $75, about $15 an hour. I mean an older teen/adult. I can't afford that so I work and hubby babysits

I know New Year's Eve has come and gone, but for future reference the best way to find out is ask other friends who babysit. It varies so much from area to area. Here in Southern CA my daughter was making $10.00 an hour when she last babysat and that was about 3 years ago. I would always pay my sitters more than the going rate because where we lived in PA when the kids were young, the sitters were so busy. You had to compete to get them.

Oh my goodness!!! I must be in the wrong business.

I am not say I disagree, really.

But how to working parents pay for you??? I know working parents who don't make that much.

I guess they need to stay home, huh?????

It's better than minimum wage, huh? We have friends in our area that pay $6/hr for three kids and their kids are WILD! We always pay a little more than the going rate for our area to keep them happy. It's nice to have a babysitter that wants to come babysit. It can get expensive though, so the 10 hour days are for trips we take to deliver a horse or pick one up or something along those lines otherwise it is strictly short date nights for us.

That's what I've been thinking!!

Holy smokes...imagine having to work at a job for minimum wage, or even a bit above... By the time you pay for your transportation, and your babysitter, you would be better off on Social Assistance.

I would think that the only ones who must get minimum wage, are the ones who babysit as a business, and claim the income...not the teens and others who occationally babysit in the evenings and such.
