Thank you @Marsha Cassada!! Yes, I agree with you. Patience, persistence and flexibility. Keep chipping away until you find what works. Work with the animal that comes out of the barn, not the animal you had yesterday. And it's going to take the time that it takes. Those are the rules, I think.

I saw a post from last year come up where we'd broken out the brand-new harness and plowed part of the field with a pallet. This year we are schooling canter in the sleigh! We are booked for two clinics this year and I plan to do lots of competitions and events with him. I'm still taking him out more than the donkey because I feel like he needs a bit more regular work, but there are definitely weeks between sometimes - depending on weather and adult obligations.
There is rarely lunging anymore. Now we have a little walk around in the middle of harnessing and that's it. That will likely be different when we get to a new place, but I anticipate we'll be able to work through.
I'm excited for this year. And just love this little odd duck!
